Sorry but I didn't get to vote on who you married - so you don't get to vote on who I do. That's equality. Majorities should not vote to limit the rights of minorities - that's just un-American and tyrannical.
What do you think would happen if we allowed a "democratic vote" in states like Alabama, South Carolina or Mississippi to decide whether to sanction interracial marriage in those states? Sorry, but in America basic civil rights and equality under the law for all citizens is not subject to the whims of the majority.
