pilib04, you're confused -- the police you see marching are from the US, not An Garda Síochána. Of course you wouldn't know what An Garda Síochána uniforms look like anyway since you live in the US.
alisaann, it's NOT human civil rights. THEY ARE NOT BEING DENIED THEIR HUMAN CIVIL RIGHTS. They will not be on duty hence cannot wear their uniforms. Got it now?????
An Gárda Síochána are not An Gárda Homaighnéasch. They exist to guard the peace - not homosexuals! An Uachtarán Ó h'Úigeann/President Higgins was voted into office by over 1m 26 county voters, the highest majority ever, albeit in a somewhat cluttered field of candidates. He's there to represent the majority, not loud and vociferous minorities of genital narcissists. First, the pink revolutionaries replaced homosexual with gay. Then they had gay pride. Now they have Dublin pride. NB the semantic subterfuge! Still homosexual cops could have paraded naked, with their badges/crests to cover their naughty bits. As to what they would do with their batons//truncheons/nightsticks is anybody's guess. Within the bounds of public decency, of course.
i'm getting to this late, i know....better late then never...right?.....any how: i feel they SHOULD have been allowed to wear their uniforms....this is just WRONG....we're talking about HUMAN CIVIL RIGHTS...and to show their NO different then anyone else. CLOSED-MINDED BIGOTS is who this is showing of those who gave the order. alisa
Im glad that our country is moving on with the times, If some "Irish" Americans have a problem with this.. stay in America and mind your own business :)
Angrypaddy. I can`t see god creating people any differantly because of your or any police commissioners opinion. Especially as he`s been making us all differant since time began (if we`re to believe the half of it)lol Have to agree with Philib04 on this one. Hope every one has a great day and those who would be offended stay away.
The Garda uniform is not a personal plaything for promoting individual sexual preferences or furthering private propaganda or agendae. You can be gay without the need of a uniform or badge! In any case, having worn a uniform for 40 years, my greatest desire at the end of a shift was to change and be just another citizen. Do these gay Gardaí not wear the uniform while on duty? Why parade in it off-duty on private business? There's a hint of exhibitionism here, methinks. I dare not suspect a fetish for the onlookers?
As for uniforms or no uniforms, its fine with me, either way. Just be consistent. However, an Garda Siochana is hardly consistent with its application of the so-called rules. They can march in uniform in other parades just not the GLBT Pride parade. They have no trouble marching in uniform in the St. Patrick's Day parades. Also Rose of Tralee, Rugby and Soccer Internationals.
Not just rightwingers, but bigots also? Shame on you.
Ha, ha, so they're using what Britain and other parts of Europe are doing to pressure Ireland to do the same. Tough. An Garda Schiocana wear uniforms when on duty. Their function isn't to enhance the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) officers, it's to protect the people of Ireland by assuring Ireland's laws are observed. No one is stopping them from marching when they'll be off duty. Off duty, no uniforms.
uniform should only be worn whilst on duty
Do you have a police uniform, ciaradexy? Reminds me of the guy in the Village People long ago.
Difficult to say, but the Irish people probably care more about the police dealing with crime than attending gay parades. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Its party weekend in Dublin!! Woo! I love Pride!
It is all gardai that are banned from marching in the pride parade in uniform; not just gay gardai. It isn't just LGBT people who support pride!
