Davis did not deny however that O’Brien may have made a donation to her fund as she happily posed for photos with the soccer boss and his squad ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against Croatia.

Special Olympics chief Davis also welcomed the news that Gay Byrne may run in the election. She said: “I think the more people in the race the better. It’s good for democracy.”

I don't know much about this guy Byrne, but a relative of mine in Ireland whose opinion I value describes him as epitomizing "the mediocrity of modern Ireland". Worse, he's anti- Irish nationality. He hates the Irish Gaelic language. Further, on radio recently he described the 3rd West Cork Brigade, the IRA unit which effectively broke British rule in Cork in 1921, as "gangsters". What other country except mediocre Ireland would even consider such a spineless mediocrity for president?

Personally, I think the job would be far too demanding for a man at 77 years of age - he'll die in office from the stress. As for Kenny being "the top broadcaster" must be a joke!! Being the highest earner does not in itself mean they are the "top broadcaster" - RTE is just being ripped off. The man can't conduct an interview without taking over the interview with his own ridiculous analysis, as though the listener didn't understand what was being said.
