He repeated: “I’ve already done it. I condemned the killing of Jerry McCabe.”

The former IRA man also denied claims by McCabe’s wife Ann that he had visited Kevin Walsh, one of the killers, while he was on the run in Cavan.

“Whoever told Ann McCabe that is doing her a great disservice, because it is not true and it begs the question that if somebody told Mrs McCabe (that), then why was Kevin Walsh not arrested?” asked McGuinness.

“An even bigger question is if the gardai (police) believe that, why did they never question me?

“Whoever told Mrs McCabe that, and she has my full sympathy, did her a disservice because there is no truth whatsoever in that and it begs the question, if this came from the gardai, why did the gardai not arrest Kevin Walsh?

“I would not support anybody under any circumstances attacking the gardai or the Defence Forces, who we are depending upon at the moment to work with the gardai to apprehend those people who are daily trying to destroy the peace process.”

mamaginnty - according to the Gardai website, there were at least 6 persons involved in the 'operation' where Garda McCabe was killed...that's the point of his family asking for more information...seems you only want 'justice' on your own terms...also McG showed where his true sympathies lay with his many prison visits...a great example to our young, eh???
'Mr Mc Cabe's killers were caught and punished, end of'. NOT. At least two of the vermin involved have yet to be caged. Of course here in the states they would all be six foot under and the Wolftones would be writing ballads about them. SF/RA, IRA, RIRA, CIRA, whatever they wish to call themselves, Al Queda 2 might work.
Gawdawpaddy, The IRA not RA. Forgot to mention also that 'here' is Ireland, now if my spelling, grammar, and a few missed comma's are bad, don't bother telling me, I don't care, might get up your nose but not mine.
Gobdawpaddy, forget about the grammar, you got the point and did not like. All this just to keep Mc Guinness from winning. Not one word of the last twenty years, and the peace he has helped create. What more info do they want, Mr Mc Cabe's killers were caught and punished, end of. DublinCitizen, tell us how Adams tried to shut her up..Ann Mc Cabe. I do hope you remember the 'horror' of the Dublin and Monaghan bombings too.
Im with Anne Mcabe on this 100% but me thinks Gallagher using this for his own profit.
He can't comdemn the murderers without disowning PIRA's armed campaign or SF's political aspirations, after Stakeknife, Donaldson, this truly would be the last nail in the republican coffin.
I support Ann McCabe and her family and well remember the horror of that killing. I also remember the way Ann was treated by Gerry Adams at a public meeting in New York - he tried to ignore her but she would not be ignored! Many of my family in America said they where shocked how badly he treated her and tried to shut her up.
gobshi tepaddy. Clearly you yourself suffered not at all at the hands of the larger terrorist organisation - the British Government. Even when they had their lackys plant bombs in the South. Don't forget when and how the 'Troubles' Got under way, bud. Remember the UVF bombing campaign?
This FF fellow whose leader and founder was the well known terrorist who caused the Irish Civil War and exterminated his opposition. He set up Michael Collins for the kill. To expect an 18 year old, fighting to protect his fellows in Derry to Dev's equivalent in the killing game takes a stretch too far. the queen should visit the site of the bloody sunday massacre with this new prez gallagher - such a move would nicely round things out for all to feel, the "millions to one" killing comparison between two/three noble countries.
DeVelera was our longest serving president, don't tell me he knew nothing of M.Collins murder, also regarded by the Brithish to be a commander of a terrorist group, now an Irish hero.
FF and TV's Gallagher will probably get in. To bad everyone doesn't remember who made most of Ireland free and Who has made peace in the north.
A gold star on the spelling ballindaggin but not on McGuinness. He was a 'commander' in a terrorist organization and shares responsibility for the actions of each of his comrades in arms thugs. Sure Gerry was only in the political wing of the RA and didn't know what was going on either.
McGuinness can,t be held responsible for everything that was done in the name of the IRA.He was afterall just one cog in a machine that would not have existed without the provocation of the British Colonialists.Hope I got my spelling right there gobdawpaddy.
Actually, too early in the morning, they weren't released under GFA which is what McG., Adams etc wanted. They served their sentences for manslaughter, not capital murder and were released. My apologies. Guess one shouldn't check in while on a 4am potty break.
This is the problem with talk of giving the Irish diaspora a vote, 'does this mean the Gardia have the wrong men in prison'. No-one is currently in prison for Gerry McCabe's murder, the 4 who were caged for his 'manslaughter' were released early under the good friday agreement and I would suggest that if you asked people over 30 in Ireland about McG. few would describe him as 'a man for the people and is having great support here'. Not sure where 'here' is but the spelling, knowledge and grammar in the post suggests Botswana.
