Talk about Christmas left overs. For 15 years now pugilistic pundit Bill O'Reilly has been reheating the war on Christmas.
Although fifteen years is a very long time to fight a so-called war, O'Reilly has never been deterred by irony. Each year he calls on his viewers to man the trenches for another make or break round of seasonal make believe.
"For the past 15 years, we have stood up for Christmas here on the 'Factor,' O'Reilly reminded his credulous viewers. And why not? The cobwebs gathering on all those supposedly threatened Christmas trees and mangers must need a big annual dusting.

O'Reilly and other Fox News pundits been ridiculed year after year for extensivley reporting threats against the holiday season that no one else actually sees, but they are still as committed to it as ever.
On Friday, O'Reilly lost his mind contemplating the Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee, whose decision to erect a 'holiday tree' incensed Fox's Christmas purists.
'Amazingly dumb!" O'Reilly scoffed. The he indulged in a bit of his own Scrooge-like bah humbugging at that the called 'secular progressives' and their nefarious conspiracy to make him conscious of the fact that not everyone in America agrees with his political views.

Like Bill O'Reilly, I always call Christmas by its proper name, Christmas. I realize that by doing so, many liberals view me as being beyond the pale of political correctness, but I still don't make apologies for calling Christmas what it it, which of course is Christmas. Beannachtaí na Nollag oraibh go léir.

I watch FOX news a lot; also, some CNN, but can't take all the squawking at each other that goes on, that, and I lean right!!
TheOldPerfessor | Dec 08, 2011, 09:06 PM EST
One year Keith Olbermann pointed out that, in the middle of O'Reilly's umpteenth gasbag attack on the War Against Christmas, Fox was selling "Bill O'Reilly Holiday Ornaments." If you are a Christian, do you really feel that your right to enjoy your holiday is under attack? Black Friday is blacker than ever. People are still being stampeded in their quest for big screen TVs. Looks like Christmas to me. On our street, there is a decorated house front with candy canes, toy soldiers, Santa, elves, deer and, oh yes, a tiny sign in the middle saying 'Keep Christ in Christmas."

Going to cable news because you want to be informed is like going to Olive Garden because you want to be in Italy.

A different affair for twelve days lighten up lol
sharlot | Dec 07, 2011, 07:29 PM EST
I agree with Bill O'Reilly on this one; extramarital affairs have nothing to do with the issue. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
seanomelbourne | Dec 07, 2011, 06:11 PM EST
I wonder if O'reilly is thinking of his extra marital affairs when he sings "The twelve days of Christmas" Was Megan Kelly one of them??.Would you like me to deliver your letter Seamus, only glad to oblige.

Again... it's Faux News Network and its gaggle of Faux News Blithering Idiots! I stopped watching, maybe someday if all normal folks quit watching, it might just go away. Hey that what I want for Christmas - for Faux News to just go away. Better write that letter to Santa. I still believe.
howareya | Dec 07, 2011, 11:48 AM EST
Captaincon...yes, Christianity did use pagan holidays and symbols. But there was a reason. Like St. Columba used the circle which was a pagan symbol for the sun god...he imposed the cross over it and explained that represented the true Son of God. So we have the Celtic Cross.
hollabackgurl | Dec 07, 2011, 09:57 AM EST
The fake war on Christmas is typical of the fake controversies whipped up by the fake Fox News. Watching cable news to be informed is like going to Olive Garden because you want to be in Italy.

@PolinDeB..HUH!! First of all you don’t know me so please do not judge me. You’re your Muslim friend should have sat his daughter down and told her how Christians started Santa. You see there really was a St. Nickolas. He was born into wealth beyond his needs and when his parents died he didn't want to be in the worldly ways so he took all his money and bought gifts and food children and adults (you see back then they didn't lock their doors) and St. Nicholas would come in and leave food, clothing and gifts for the families. The children hung their stockings (socks to us today) by the fire to get dried and St. Nickolas would come and fill them with toys and treats for the kids. He did this all year round not just on Christmas. So because of the wise men that brought Jesus gifts we associate St. Nick with the 3 wise men giving gifts. And that’s how we got Santa. . But to me it is more about Dec.25 being celebrated as the birth of Christ. It don't mean that is the exact day Jesus was born it means that’s the day we Christians chose to celebrate it. As for it becoming too commercial. Well that goes with out saying. It is sad ppl act the way they do during the Christmas time . Have a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. And celebrate the birth of Christ .Jesus is the reason for the Christmas season.

Poor Bill. He's perfect for Fox viewers. The moron's, moron! About as useful as a cat-flap on a submarine!
PolinDeB | Dec 07, 2011, 12:08 AM EST
Like the story of my Muslim friend, came in to work one day.. " I lied to my daughter, I promised I never would but I did". I asked why? "She asked whether Santa came to Muslims - I said no. She said 'Daddy he doesn't come to Muslims in Persia where your from but he does come to Muslims in Australia'. So I did it .. I lied. 'Well, he must be coming then'" Happy Christmas...
PolinDeB | Dec 07, 2011, 12:04 AM EST
on the other hand.. I don't think the problem is people.. i think the problem is bureaucrats with very little to do.. if they actually ran the schools and worried about grades more than pc stuff.. everyone wouldn't get a #$%# what Christmas was called..
PolinDeB | Dec 07, 2011, 12:00 AM EST
@simplesandy May not be a greate Christian..I'm ready .. but if you believe in Christ then you believe in being nice to the poor ..basically a Social Welfare state... kinda unAmerican isn't it... Living Christian values is more than being mean to gays..
PolinDeB | Dec 06, 2011, 11:57 PM EST
Actually the tree comes from an earlier tradition.. yep it's good to see Bill is dealing with the big issues though.. the children who won't and never have had a decent christmas tree of their own or won't see Christmas because they don't have decent medical treatment.. kinda think Americans take "Suffer little children" a little literally... Fox news is the anti-Christmas monster...
jamieLM | Dec 06, 2011, 05:24 PM EST
@simplesandy - well said. Merry Christmas! @CaptianCon - you're right. The early Christian Church took over some pagan festivals and terminology, sometimes slightly changing the terminology and the date of the festivals, and "Christianized" them. So what? They're now part of the Christian tradition and have been for centuries. Lots of things in history have been taken over by others and improved. If there are any pagans out there who want to celebrate the winter solstice on Dec. 22, or even the 25th, with a festival - have at it.
CaptainCon | Dec 06, 2011, 05:09 PM EST
Eileenkny- no-one is trying to take away 'beliefs'. No-one is going to creep through the window when you are asleep and steal your Christmas. It is a pity more people would not stand up for knowledge and shine a light on idiots like O'Reilly who makes a lucrative career out of dogwhistling to the perennially fearful. Between O'Reilly and Fox News there is a sort of Disneyland of Fear being utilised to manouver people in the US into a bunker mentality which makes them more biddable and manageable by people like O'Reilly and Fox. Americans should be better than this.

Kool-aid O'reilly the one man band to save the world from freethinkers.
eileenkny | Dec 06, 2011, 04:39 PM EST
Maybe if we stood up for our beliefs, the ACLU's fans wouldn't be able to take everything away from us. I know I won't say "happy holidays"; I say "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Chanukah".
CaptainCon | Dec 06, 2011, 04:15 PM EST
'Christmas' is already a ripoff. The christians stole it like they stole most other holidays. Or superimposed their own fake symbols over the top of older celebrations. Many of the so-called 'christian' symbols such as the fish one sees occasionally on the back of cars is a Roman symbol for pisces- it had nothing whatsoever to do with christianity. And don't get me started on Easter. Christians are in a dumb place when they claim ownership of mid-winter festivals.
simplesandy | Dec 06, 2011, 01:04 PM EST
Here is the sad thing. Christians are letting non believers in Christ walk all over them. If you chose to not believe in Christmas and celebrate it with those who do then so be it. No one is forcing you to do something you don’t want to. But IT IS CHRISTMAS CHRIST=MAS, I don't tell other faiths how to celebrate any of their beliefs and sure as hell do not want them to change mine. If you want a sparkle season then by all means make one up. But as for the 25 of December it is the day we celebrate Christmas.what I say to people is Merry Christmas and happy New Year. And I mean this from my heart. I think people who have a problem with this need to GET OVER THEMSELVES. If someone who is celebrating something from their beliefs I would not knock them or show my ignorance and rudeness by telling them I want to change that because I feel offended by it .I would say same to you. Here is where I have a problem with how people react to something you believe in. NO ONE KNOWS TILL THEY ARE DEAD, SO DON'T TELL ME THEIR WAY IS THE ONLY WAY. It is only belief and faith we alllll feel. Now Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one and all. God bless xo
jflanagan | Dec 06, 2011, 12:20 PM EST
While I do not waste time getting upset over the PC idiots, I do ask, when someone wishes me a "Happy Holiday": "Thanks, which one should I be happy during?" It it's "Happy Holidays" I ask them to be more specific so I can accommodate their wish.
cillowen | Dec 06, 2011, 12:06 PM EST
funny the contradictions that abound as the anti kind are massive beneficiaries of what their reject brings in.
CaptainCon | Dec 06, 2011, 11:19 AM EST
When O'Reilly finally joins the choir invisible (for his country he could do no more) and is assigned his cloud and sandals perhaps we could have his body stuffed, dressed in a tutu donated by any one of a number of unnamed Republican senators and stick him on top of the White House tree. It is the closest that dingbat will ever get to any power beyond the paranoia of the dingbat club.
Tooreenagrena | Dec 06, 2011, 10:32 AM EST
Hilda Higgins who are you speaking for? I live in London and every year local authorities spend taxpayers money trying to outdo themselves in celebtating a Christ free festival even trying to rename the season Winterval or some such stupid name. Their excuse is that celebrating Christmas will offend non Christians. This is just an excuse because when you ask non Christians they say the opposite. This is done by anti religios political interest groups and people like you Hilda. Again I ask who do you represent? Not me for sure.
mikehoulihan | Dec 06, 2011, 10:23 AM EST
who writes this crap?
Porickseantuny | Dec 06, 2011, 10:11 AM EST
O'Reilly is truly Irish he continues the fight even when the cause seems lost. As I corrected the umpteenth salesperson, it's Merry Christmas. Not happy holidays. Channakuh is historically a minor Jewish feast and Kwanza was made up in the 70's by psuedo black historians.
colkelley | Dec 06, 2011, 09:20 AM EST
As an atheist I do not see the need for purging all religious reference from American life. The effort to remove all Christian references while increasing recognition and deference to all other religions is simply ludicrous.
