Unfortunately greensod is correct, that if Irish abroad were allowed to vote, (RA)SF would already be in power. The Irish abroad, in many cases have a 'rose tinted view of RA/SF for decades, in the US throwing a few bucks into the hat for 'de cause' in gin joints in the Bronx, Woodside, Queens, Southie, out the avenues in San Francisco etc., oblivious to the reality that their USD were assisting in killing innocent people, children, Irish police officers and soldiers, in addition to the British. I suggest the age group of potential RA/SF voters abroad would be young (unemployed in Ireland) emigrants in the 18 to 28 range, too young to remember RA/SF atrocities and the 60 group who possess a ghra mo chroi view of that crowd. Assuming voting rights would extend to holders of Irish passports, many would never have set foot in Ireland and would fall into my 'ghra mo chroi' group. I would be entitled to vote, but for the sake of the Irish in Ireland, would not advocate a non-resident vote. The progress of RA/SF in Ireland is a dangerous development that the Irish people should keep a close eye on.

greensod: I agree the Irish who have left the country in the past five years, should retain their Voting rights; provided they have not applied for or have become 'Naturalised' in their new country. ~ ~ ~ I don't see how it could be described as our 'birthright' though, as it has never been granted or even proposed, by any elected Irish Government. ~ Nor likely to be!!

Towngate; If the Irish abroad were allowed to vote in a general election,as is their birth right,Sinn Fein would already be in power. Other wise I agree with you, it just may take a civil war to convince the brain washed islanders that they are the only party that will once again have Ireland take its place among the nations of the world. The freestaters have a lot to loose and would indeed resort to any means necessary to hold on to the power that the have abused of too long.

I predict SF will cannibalise what was Labour Party grassroots as Labour continue down the same road the Green Party took into electoral oblivion. If SF want to tell the European rentier class to go **** themselves with their corporate 'European Project' then I agree with them and will support them. I won't support any handing over of Irish sovereignty to the corporate criminals and money launderers behind the ECB.

Greensod: I fear there could be another Civil War to stop the SF ever getting a grip on the country. They are nearly 100 years off the pace!

FF has been in power for almost 80 years, they have the people brain washed.Dont be surprised if you see them back in power shortly. It is pretty clear that FG can not measure up to the challenge of dealing with the Germans.Only Sinn Fein has the experience and the skilled people to get Ireland out from under the mess that FF left on the table.Unless the people wake up soon Ireland will be ruled from Berlin. The traitors from FF and FG will all get nice cushy jobs and Sinn Fein will once again, against the odds resume the process to get the country back.

Some of my country men are crazy hopping from the frying pan into the fire. There's a lot of sense in cons post.I fail to understand why labour voters would cross to Fianna Fail it begs common sense.

I don't get it... FG/L implement the exact policies that FF policies demanded and, for that, FF surges in the polls? Every time the FF Finance Spokesman complains about FG/L budget decisions, I want to barf. Those hypocrites wrecked the country, and they have the gall to bemoan austerity. Apparently, FF is reverting back to the old message of "yes, Ireland, you CAN have it all! Lower taxes and higher government spending!". And we're going to fall for it AGAIN, aren't we? I give up...

Agree both comments below. Hopefully the 'Parish-pump GAA Crony-infested Grass-roots will find it hard to break through the thick slab of ECB/IMF Comcrete they have caused to be laid over the whole country!

I realize that it is democracy, but there is no escaping the stupidity of the Irish electorate. Fianna Fail through incompetence, gombeenism and in some cases corruption, destroyed Ireland and now their support is coming back? Wait for it, Ireland's present government will take the tough decisions necessary to rectify the country's problems, hopefully enough to see it in a far better position at the end of their term. True to form, the Irish electorate in their 'wisdom' will kick them out and go back to the cute hoors in Fianna Fail after they promise them the sun, moon and stars. The island of (saints) and scholars ha, ha, ha.......

Fianna Fail's remaining support comes from the patronage tribe who owe their jobs and corners in Irish society to Fianna Fail patronage- I suspect that this is mainly among the one in five/six who have jobs in the public sector and who had Fianna Fail exempt them from hardship via the Croke Park Agreement. These are the deadweight know-nothings in Ireland- the GAA/Fianna Fail 'I'm alright jack' merchants who rely on Fianna Fail because they have no merit otherwise. Once the Croke Park Agreement is destroyed at the behest of the ECB/IMF then they'll be finished because the way the maths add up they do not have support enough to form another government and it is political suicide for any other party to go into coalition with them. Destroy the semi-states and reduce the civil and public service and you remove the FF patronage nest.
