This handout photo provided by the family of the deceased on April 21, 2009 shows an undated photo of Michael Dwyer, 24, a construction management graduate in an unknown location. Dwyer was one of three people shot dead when Bolivian police raided a hotel in the eastern Bolivian city of Santa Cruz on April 16, 2009. The family of an Irishman shot dead by Bolivian police said today that claims he was involved in an assassination plot against President Evo Morales were "absolutely ridiculous".

Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin, who was minister for foreign affairs at the time of Dwyer’s death, added that “The Bolivian government has serious questions to answer about the actions taken on the night Michael was killed and since.”
He called upon the UN to support the Dwyer family in their investigation into Michael’s death.
Martin added, “The Dwyer family have suffered a huge loss and their pain was made worse by the false allegations that were made immediately after Michael’s death and the continued refusal of the Bolivian government to deal with this case openly.”

Why would an Irishman travel from a European country (Ireland), to a South American country (Bolivia) - to study security, when surely there are no shortage of security institutes here? Exactly what kind of 'security' are we talking about here? Much is rarely what it appears to be at face value!

Macaleen, what the hell do you know about Bolivia or South America? I bet the only Spanish you know is enchilada and beef taco. Your propaganda spiel is lifted from some web site and your dirty slur that this young man wanted to kill Bolivian peasants is most offensive. I have reported your slimy slur, but I have no confidence that Irish Central will remove it and throw it in the trash where it belongs.

What facts support his being part of a rightwing plot?

Whatever happened in the hotel in Santa Cruz he most definitely was a part of a rightwing plot to spark off a civil war, as had other groups in the country to whom the leader, Eduardo Rosza Flores, was linked, such as the fasicst Nación Camba (who wanted a civil war to separate the 'white' east from the Andes (which would then be 'cleared', much as Rosza Flores' friends had tried in Croatia a decade or two back against Muslims and even ethnic Serbs. Rosza Flores was half Croatian and had links to the Croatian fascist movement. He even left a video where he describes his plans.
Now. I understand his mammy and pappy are upset but perhaps they should understand that joining a fascist terror cell and trying to spark a race war is actually Quite A Bad Thing and people can get killed doing it.
He had been a military contractor and I forget the ezact details but I think he met R-F in Iraq if I'm not mistaken working for a company like or possibly even for Blackwater.
It seems the thrill of living a real life Tour Of Duty videogame and getting to murder real Bolivian Socialist peasants (as other, Brazilian funded mercenaries had done only shortly before at Porvenir in the Bolivian Amazon where they gunned down 18 people (men, women and children on their way to a socialist party rally, some being shot in the back as they fled by terrorists toting automatic weapons) and this seems to have appeared quite exciting a prospect for such a potentially heroic, hot blooded young man.
Like all fascists, it seems he was inclined less to entertain the idea that he would be one of those shot rather than one of those doing the shooting.
Never mind.
