You really have to read dennys Response a few times and let it sink in to fully appreciate exactly what they are saying.
First Dennys is Equating a deadly experience like Famine to that of having a peckish appetite for a Breakfast.
This Horror stalked the Irish People 160 years ago,A long time in politics but Who is Dennys to draw a line under our historical Grief perceived or otherwise
10s of thousands of people died last year from Famine and more will die this year, Does this sound like a subject for Humor???.Why doesn't Dennys make a large Donation for the Alleviation of Hunger instead of making jokes about it..

CP, I have refrained from responding to your earlier insults as they say more about you than me. I agree that there may be some who are better read on the subject than I am but thus far this has not been apparent. As for you, I have no intention of attempting to enlighten you. As who should say, 'Where ignorance is bliss, 'Tis folly to be wise.' In the immortal words of Bill O'Rielly, you can have the last word - I' outta here.

Tom Swinford, Enlighten us ! A word to the wise however, be very carefull what you present as some of us may be better read than you are willing to credit, and your very large ego makes an easy target.

Niall, indeed they are - but populist rage is rarely rational and usually way over the top. I am surprised that so many condemned the ad without seeing it - how smart is that? I am also disappointed that many writers apparently know little of the facts or truth of the Famine, relying instead on the age-old myths.

i'd say 600 fans in a a few hours is an example that people are still aggrieved about this issue and are entitled to express their opinion on it

I haven't seen the ad, but it sounds INCREDIBLY STUPID and INSENSITIVE. One can only imagine the uproar in the newsmedia if Denny's advertised "all you can eat Bagels and cream cheese" to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the end of the Holocaust. Oy vey! We'd never hear the end of it and there would be immediate demands for increased funding for Holocaust education in the schools.

The offence was unintentional. The apology sufficient. For Chrissake let's grow up and get on with it.
