I think everyone is making too much of this. It was not the intention of Denny's to offend-how in the world can every company be "politically correct" about everything? If you are offended, don't eat there, simple as that.

I haven't been able to find the site on facebook. Denny's won't apologize because they have below par marketing and PR skills. As for Siobhan's plea for the employees at Denny's, they'd be better off working for a better company.

Accept the apology - give the money you would have spent at Denny's to Haitian relief - might be nice if Denny's made a donation too -

I wouldn't at Denny's anyway and it doesn't surprise me that they would do something that. I hope that everyone boycotts them and show them that an opology is not enough.

My grandfather came to the US from Ireland during the potato famine, with his parents. His mother's maiden name was Maloney. This is not the first time Denney's has been at the least, tasteless and tactless. Some years back, there was a big flap because they did some racist things.
Whoever is handling public relations, etc. is an idiot. What about some sensitivity seminars for the managers? Or owners...

I think it is tragic to make fun of such a horrible time in history. What's next, poking fun at The Holocost?

TS,Tom ,Don't take it so hard ,there is nothing personal. You insulted all other readers painting them as reactionary idiots and holding yourself and your intelect superior. I could not let that go unchalanged. When push came to shove you did not have much to say. May you remain Blissfull , but for Denny's I trust they learn from their errors!

Most companies choose to advertise to improve their image with the people. Denny's is just the opposite. They just spent a whole lot of money to alienate a whole lot of potential customers. That's just plain stupid. Now Denny's is facing a boycott by Irish-Americans who are outraged by the companies historical ignorance. I think the only apology from Denny's that would be acceptable now is one that promised to make a generous donation to an Irish organization dedicated to remembering the victims of the Great Hunger.

Am I missing something here? These outraged people should get a life! There are many more important things to be outraged about.

Save your outrage for something that matters for crying out loud.

In reading the apology I see that Denny's does not really understand their error.
Mark them as ignorant, the ad has stopped;let's move on.

O brother, talk about a tempest in a teapot. They are making note of the END of the Famine not the Famine itself.

A storm in a teacup....
I think the only thing that Denny's have fed here is the victim mentality that unfortunately some Irish or "Irish American" folk still can't outgrow.
Once again, they have demonstrated the lengths to which some people will go to be 'offended'.
