An interesting secret about a lot of Emerald Society pipe bands is that quite a few guys in the march actually don't know to play the pipes. They disconnect the chanter, so they make no noise. The actual music might be supplied by only half the band. The other guys come along for the macho feeling it gives them, but they only go thru the pretense of playing.
