Screw you and your comments byethebay you are a worthless turd!
100 friends and family wearing green to show solidarity with the victim is designed to intimidate the judge, Mr. Rodriguez and his family as well as the defense attorney. The justice system is not about intimidation. If any other ethnic group did this Americans of Irish descent would be outraged.
There's no word here about whether or not George Gibbons Sr. was wearing a seat belt required by NY State law. The taxi driver survived the accident, they're required to wear seat belts to drive a taxi.
The relevant words of the DA in this case are "provable facts of the case", not lynch mob mentality.
Sad for his family. Our legal system needs to be restructured. If he was found possessing Marajuana they would have probably been able to give him 20 yrs. Such are the ridiculous laws on the books these days.
It's the running away that should have gotten the bum ten years...
I can understand the emotions and frustration of the Gibbons family and my sympathy goes out to them at the lenient sentence of 3 1/2 years given to Rodriguez after he went on the run. However I fail to see if he has been given the maximum sentence allowed (and I honestly think it is far far too lenient) what other action they can pursue when his parole comes up. I do wish them all the best and hope they can get a change of the law to allow accused in such cases to be sentenced to a longer sentence. I am at a loss at the District Attorney's comments. He must be living in a different world to us humans. Best wishes from the Emerald Isle.
3.5 years only? Tragic!
