Lennox, the “death row dog” from Belfast, is “at the end of his line” despite last-ditch appeals by his owners. The dog, who was removed from its family in 2010, has made international news and received outpourings of support to protect it from being put to sleep.
The Belfast Telegraph reports that the original owners of Lennox, the Barnes family of Belfast, have been working hard to prevent their beloved pet from being destroyed. In September of last year, a court ruled that the dog was dangerous and would need to be put down.
The Barnes family, however, maintains that their pet is not a threat and has never hurt anyone. Further, the family maintains that Lennox is not a banned Pit bull breed, but is rather an American bulldog cross.
County Court Judge Henry Rodgers refused an application for a last-ditch appeal last week because he believes that Caroline Barnes, Lennox’s owner, along with her legal team, “had not established a point of law on which to make one.”

Caroline Barnes has worked relentlessly to spread the story about Lennox through the ‘Save Lennox’ campaign in the hopes of receiving support for the ill-fated dog, especially after it was ruled by a Belfast judge in September that the dog would have to be destroyed. Lennox has since made news around the world, and a petition to save the dog’s life has garnered over 123,000 signatures.
Lennox has been separated from Caroline Barnes and Barnes’ 12-year-old disabled daughter, Brooke, for 610 days now, says The Belfast Telegraph. The dog was originally removed from the Barnes’ care in 2010 when, while muzzled, it knocked a dog warden to the ground and hit the warden’s face.
The Lord Chief Justice Office of Northern Ireland spokeswoman said: "After considering the application by Ms Barnes and representations by Belfast City Council, Judge Rodgers on January 13, 2012 notified the parties that he had refused to state a case for the Court of Appeal."
Caroline Barnes has 14 days to appeal to the Court of the Appeal about the County Court Judge refusing to state a case about her dog.

I just want to say what Ireland is allowing to happen and the politics that are going on is WRONG. Lennox had NO prior aggressive reports on her. To JUDGE a dog by just their breed is WRONG. So true,i absolutely agree with you.The judge has more than enough evidence in lennox'x case to over turn this.It completely shocking that the judge still deems him to be a danger when he wasnt a danger in the first place and,the wardens have admitted to perjury so not sure what the judge thinks he's playing at,its the wrong dog they went for in the first place.... something very wrong going on here and a stop needs to be put to it... The ironic thing is that in keeping poor Lennox locked up for 2 years - it is the authorities that have hurt this dog and traumatised him. There is still hope that someone may realise the wrong they are doing and come to the senses. Society needs to know that people can admit when they are wrong and do the right thing. Please let it be a happy ending for an innocent soul.

Sirpeter & Pitsburghkid- I would like to start out by saying that you are both idiots. To say that pit bulls are killing machines is completely ridiculous. My parents have a pitbull, and a little spitz, and three cats, but for some reason, everybody's still alive and well. If they were truly killing machines, I would think that one of my parents other pets would have been dead by now!! I also have a 7 year old daughter and she's been around my parent's pit bull since they've had him... Never once has he harmed her!! Let me guess, you both are thinking that I'm the idiot for letting my kid around him? Well I could care less what you think!! I know what's right and wrong, and this situation with Lennox is WRONG. Regardless of what his breed is, whether it be pit bull, or bull dog/labrador cross, he has not harmed anyone, and has never shown any signs of agression, so what Belfast City Council & the dog wardens are doing is WRONG! I could see it if the family was training their dog to protect the house, or how to attack a stranger, but come on... the dog did nothing to provoke his captivity. And sirpeter, Lennox's family doesn't consider him "just a dog" or a piece of their property... they consider him a FAMILY MEMBER... that is why they have fought so hard for him! The Belfast Dog Wardens had declared Lennox a menace.At that point I would know my dog was in real real trouble.Btw I don't agree that the dog should have been locked up for 2 years.That's cruel.The dog wardens should have made a quick decision on what to do and put the dog to sleep straight away if they felt the dog was dangerous.I would have never have appealed to a judge as I would know my dog would have be caged for along time before his case came up.I would never put a dog through that stress.You see I am very good with animals and it upsets me to see them in distress.You see Boxerangel I hate dog breeders because they breed some dogs to the point where some have all sorts of problems and have difficulty even breathing air.That's really cruel.A lot of dog owners/lovers will put their own needs first and put a dog in a kennel while they go on holidays.That's cruel.Lennox had the worst owners ever.Their motives were totally selfish and it is their fault the dog suffered in a cage for so long.Lennox didn't know the reason for his captivity.From the moment he was taken he just felt stressed and abandoned until he went into despair.Any true person who really cares for their dog would never let him suffer like that.Even if it meant ending his life.Which they could have agreed too.Death is not a problem once you are dead.Letting a dog suffer because of a dispute between humans and their laws is not putting a dog first.Like most humans they always put themselves first and animals pay the price.Even if the dog is set free.The poor dog has suffered because of humans.Have a good think about it.

It's not the breeds fault alall its,stupid thuggish people who breed these muscular dogs and from the minute they are born take them from their mother and start training them to be viscious.Never say a dog of any discription wants to be aggressive because you are so wrong,its the idiots and animal abusers that make them this way and the reason they choose this type of dog is because once they bite there jaw would lock on and is far more powerful than most other breeds.Ridiculous to say this type of dog should be outbred.Its things said like that that cause problems like what LENNOX IS FACING RIGHT NOW!!!!!!! Pittsburghkid.You tell it as it is.I fully agree with you.Pugsmom who was raised with Pit bulls has convinced me the dog should be put down.She states that any dog can be made vicious by idiots.I agree.But Pit bulls are particularity vicious and dangerous in the hands of an idiot.Since idiots and non-idiots have equal rights under the law.Both would have the right to own a Pit bull.I have noticed over a lifetime that 90% of dog owners treat their dogs to a greater or lesser degree incorrectly.Ask any vet.Breeding Pit bulls as pets should be stopped.

What your artice fails to mention is the fact that the sam judge who ordered Lennox to be executed in September and against whom an appeal was lodged on a point of law as he misinterpreted it, is the SAME judge who has issued this final decision. How can Northern Ireland claim to have a justice system worth anything when the judge against whom an appeal is lodged is then the judge who reviews the appeal? Where is the impartiality? This is bias at it's horrible and ugly worst. Henry Rogers, you should be utterly ashamed to call yourself a judge. The world calls you to account for your dreadful decision to slaughter an innocent dog - a dog who has done nothing whatsoever - just on the offchance he might. Well, in that case, your "honour" - why not just slaughter every single dog on the planet - "just in case"?

I am ashamed to say I am Irish. I can't believe with all the experts speaking out on this dogs behalf that he has not been released. I'm PLEADING with the honorable Judge to do the right thing and see that this dog is released. There has to be a creative solution if he does not feel he can return to the family, at least release the dog to a rescue out of the area. Though he really should be returned to his family. I pray to this innocent creature will be returned home soon. In the name of justice - PLEASE SAVE THIS DOG!

@Boxerangel....this has been going on for quite some time, now. People have appealed and signed petitions for nearly 2 years. "Celebrities" have stepped in to stop this insanity, but the "authorities" that have been spearheading this killing refuse to admit they're wrong at this juncture, and so, to "save face" they're forging ahead with Lennox's destruction. If I had the money, I would "spring" him and give him a home with me and all my other rescue dogs and cats. (So if any "celebrity" with $$$ would like to "step up" with an offer to help get him to me, Lennox will live out his years in love and comfort!)

Everyone alive knows Lennox is a gentle, friendly family dog. It will be a travesty if he is put down. The warden has admitted perjury, she is photographed hugging Lennox and the 'trainer' is seen to be testing a gentle, obediant dog. Whats going on???? This is not about Lennox at all anymore, or he would be back home, with his little girl and family that love him. Somebody with some intelligence and knowledge please let him go back to his loving, responsible owners....
