Eamon O Cuiv, deputy head of Fianna Fail, has resigned from his position in the party after not agreeing with Michael Martin, the party’s head, on the party’s stance on the upcoming EU fiscal treaty.
BreakingNews reports that in addition to stepping down as deputy head, O Cuiv has also resigned from his role as spokesperson on communications, energy and natural resources.
O Cuiv stated that Martin expressed his concern about O Cuiv’s opposing view on the EU treaty, to which O Cuiv admits "He [Martin] is the party leader and I do accept that he has a majority for his view in the parliamentary party.”
"To me, this whole issue is about the fundamental future of Ireland and I believe it's much bigger than any one individual,” said O Cuiv. “Therefore, it would be impossible for me to stay as deputy leader and not have my heart and soul in what I would consider to be an absolutely fundamental decision that we have to make."
Michael Martin agreed with O Cuiv in that if he could not support Fianna Fail’s stance on the Fiscal Compact, than O Cuiv could no longer occupy his positions in the party.
“As the party prepares for a momentous Ard Fheis this weekend, it is my hope that Éamon will continue to work for Fianna Fáil's renewal as he has done over the last twelve months,” said Michael Martin.
O Cuiv said that he will still attend the Ard Fheis this weekend.

Curdexter: Which is the bigger jackass, you or O Cuiv? Probably you, because your Reading Comprehension is at second grade level. I never said Irish will be spoken by the majority of Irish people, only an utter clown such as you would invent such a thing and then "refute" it.

ciara[v]exy! Abair faoi fein leat/Speak for yourself! It's an uncanny experience listening to Dev's grandson speak. Just like his grand-dad, with the County Clare accent, particularly when speaking in Gaelic/Irish. Glad to see he's giving the Europeans the two fingers, like his grandad di with the Engish-British.

Finally, one of our politicians has grown a pair of balls and has spoken up in favour of the ordinary Paddy. Still wont get my vote though Eamo! George, the Irish language will never be spoken by the majority regardless of whether or not we have immigration into Ireland. Get over it.

I don't claim to be an expert on Irish politics, but I formed the opinion that O Cuiv was a clown a few years back. I happened to be in Ireland when he made a speech in which he said that Mass Immigration was helping the Irish language, that Irish people would be shamed into learning Irish because they heard all the foreigners' languages every day. I knew it was infantile garbage when I heard it, and so it has proved to be.
