Dublin psychiatrists try to help real-life vampires

Studies shows vampirism has always been a ‘feature in society’

Dublin psychiatrists have completed a study into vampirism after a man visited a hospital claiming that if he did not drink blood he would die.

The condition was brought into the public consciousness in the early 1990s when a 21-year-old Eastern European asked medical services for access to blood stocks as he did not want to hurt anybody. The condition is thought to be linked to schizophrenia.

Brendan Kelly, a consultant psychiatrist at the Mater Hospital, in Dublin’s city center, has studied the mental illness behind the condition of vampirism.  A study carried out by Kelly, and his colleague Seamus MacSuibhne, found that psychiatrists should engage more with their patients beliefs to be in with a chance of helping them.

Kelly, told the Sunday Times: “It is important that contemporary psychiatrists continue to seek to diagnose the type of mental illness that causes vampiric beliefs and to offer treatment....Helping these individuals, and their families, find some clue as to why they were drawn to a particular belief like vampirism can aid in their over all recovery.”

He continued “We looked at reports into vampirism stretching back hundreds of years and found interest in this subject matter has always been a feature in society.”

Sigmund Freud the pre-eminent figure and founder of modern Psychiatry is on record at having concluded "The Irish are beyond analysis" So no doubt there's many's a soul there being fleeced at close to 200Euro an hour gaping up from a couch. The case study in this instance is an Eastern European. His penchant for a pint of blood "linked to schizophrenia". Purporting findings and discussion "their overall recovery" is absolute rubbish. They do not recover. And speak from first hand experience. My girlfriend and I and others narrowly escaped serious injury at Thanksgiving a year ago here in the U.S. at her parental home. When one of her brothers a diagnosed schizophrenic out of nowhere lost it and hurled heavy skillets and vases and kitchen knives round the place. Hearing 'voices' in his head. My presciption for this foreign vampire in Ireland? Warm a gallon of tomato juice to body temerature every day and let him drink it in the comfort of a Sanitorium. I'm done and over with this political correct crap of 'special needs'. They can live in deep denial or excuses all they want. I'm not going to that house this Thanksgiving and that is that "Jim's doing okay you have to come" Oh really. A cast iron skillet whizzing inches from one's head?
Jayzus! Now we're coddling "vampires!" I agree with IronMountainMovies: both the shrinks and the journos who took this wacko seriously need help, themselves. What was the doctor's "prescription" for this "eastern European" nutter -- an account at the local blood bank, complete with debit-card? tonyo
And who pray tell, is treating the psychiatrists or indeed the journalists who take this seriously? Besides, NAMA is already helping Irish blood suckers who have already bled us dry! Ronan Gallagher
