A stunning Dublin apartment built by the man behind the Chicago Spire has been put on the market – at almost one eighth of its boom-time price.

Property developer Garrett Kelleher once asked $5.2million at the height of the boom for the city centre penthouse apartment overlooking the river Liffey and O’Connell Bridge.

Now the receiver appointed to one of his business interests by Bank of Scotland has put the Arran Quay apartment on the market for just $745,000.

Kelleher, now involved in the movie business, saw his property interests run into financial trouble after pumping millions into the Chicago Spire project.

It is believed that Kelleher invested over $200million of his own money into the Chicago development which was launched by Irish actor Liam Neeson and his late wife Natasha Richardson.

Anglo Irish Bank forced Kelleher to hand over the undeveloped site as it sought to recover $110million in loans.

Late last year, Bank of Scotland appointed receivers to a number of subsidiaries and assets of Shelbourne Developments, owned by Kelleher.

The Dublin property now on the market at a knockdown price was designed by celebrated French designer Andree Putman to resemble a New York-style loft apartment.

Agent Ken MacDonald described the Aston Quay pad as a ‘stunning penthouse with direct access to Dublin’s Central Business District, the IFSC, plus all major entertainment and social areas’ in an interview with the Irish Independent.

The two-bedroom property measures 3,280sq ft  and is one of the largest apartments in Dublin city.

“With its panoramic views over the River Liffey, it is ideal for discerning purchasers,” said agent McDonald.

That's great! At last property is reaching its true value. The property spin doctors, bank sharks and false auctioneers and valuers have met their match! Panoramic views over the Liffey; what about the stink over the Liffey? The lies have been exposed.
The 'Quay' that this apartment is on is Aston Quay. I worked next door in Usit now for a few years, attended club USI and shopped in Virgin so yeah I know it well. There are now apartments in Templebar for less than €100,000 and even or Arran Quay there are none. Look at Daft .ie and check them out. They do not exist. 'Centre city'?? What are you talking about?? Yeah Angrypaddy, I live in Dublin, I know what Im talking about. I dont comment on American issues because I am not American and it is neither my place, nor do I pretend to know anything about American issues. Many on here should do the same when it comes to Irish matters.
Im from Dublin, I know this city inside out. There are no apartments in this city for under €100k.There is a lift as this apartment is in the old Virgin Megastore building and there was a lift when it was open. To hire a removal van and help is about €100 an hour. Bythebay, seriously, snap out of it. I have never 'walked up the Quay'? Eh, the Quays start at Heuston Station and go right down to grand canal quay and the Point. Whats 'Quay' specifically are you on about?
Spot on ciaradexy! Don't know what bay Bythebay is by. It sure ain't Galway or Dublin. Must be the Bay of Bengal. Of nine post on this page, four are by the terminal pessimist. Neeson's a northern Nationalist who was married to English actress - Vanessa Redgraves' daughter, Natasshia. Have you anything positive to say about Ireland, BTB? Try reading Norman Vincent Peale's "The Power of Positive Thinking". Better still, his classic "How To Win Friends and Influence People" might at least win you a few acquaintences to dilute your conspicuous lonliness and projected self-hatred. If you don't like Ireland, go somewhere else. And take your negativity with you.
Bythebay-Neeson wasnt married to Vanessa Redgrave you knob! And you would not get an apartment in Dublin city for under €100k. We dont have a ghetto here, you must be confusing us with wherever youre from. 'A lot of parties in council flats'? WTF? Are you mental? Take your meds please.
LoyalEEjit-Your check is in the mail-hold your breath!
@Murph46: This is a prime example of how you Americans asset stripped Ireland.................Your pretentious Corporations manipulated dopey Irish Politicians into taking the fixed assets of Ireland and turned it into liquid assets...........It then disappeared into traitorous political / banking systems, who in turn used the money to finance pretentious American Corporations............Pay it back you leech.
ciaradexy lives there in the penthouse!
