Dublin man accused of selling Viagra from his home by mail order
Marc Kelly brought up on charges of distributing prescription drugs illegally
Marc Kelly, a Dublin man, has been brought up on charges that he was selling Viagra and other prescription drugs illegally through his home in Clondalkin.
The Irish Independent reports that Kelly is facing prosecution following a probe by the Irish Medicines Board (IMB), which had him summoned to appear at Dublin District Court on Wednesday, July 31.
Kelly is accused of illegally importing Valium into Ireland without authorization on July 21 2011, as well as unlawfully keeping a supply of Cialis, which contains the prescription-only active ingredient Sildenafil Citrate.
The IMB is also accusing Kelly of importing and keeping for supply Viagra around the same time. Viagra is the more well-known drug to treat men with erectile dysfunction and also contains Sildenafil Citrate.
Sildenafil, the Irish Independent reports, is regulated by prescription control and requires advice of a medical practitioner. It can cause serious side effects for people suffering from heart problems and can also result in headaches, stomach-aches and visual problems.
Additionally, Kelly also faces charges for advertising a medicine named Xenical, another prescription-only drug used in weight loss treatment, on April 8, 2011.
Kelly’s lawyer Rory Staines told Judge John Coughlan that some items of disclosure from the IMB had yet to be received, and asked for the case to be pushed back to a later date. Judge Coughlan agreed, and pushed the date back to September.
Kelly, who did not appear in court, has yet to enter a plea.
