Ali and Bono risk millions on ethical clothes line

Bono and wife Ali Hewson have asked a class of four and five-year-olds to help them design for their new clothing line.

Thirty-five children from St. Enda's elementary school in Dublin, have created their own designs on t-shirts and each of them are in with a chance of having their t-shirt made and sold as part of Bono's clothing line Edun.

The kids were asked to create a drawing about something they love in their home.

The ethical clothing line - created by the U2 front man and his wife Ali Hewson - set up the design competition to help children in need, and will be donating a significant portion of the proceeds from the T-shirt sales to the Whitefriar Street national school as well as the Bidii School in Dublin.

The line was created five years ago by the powerhouse couple and they have pumped millions of their own money into it.

Edun's mission is to help build trade with Africa. The clothing line is described as a socially conscious fashion brand.

The profits support community-based projects in Africa.

St Enda's deputy principal, Martina Healy, told the Herald newspaper in Ireland that they were approached by the store in the hope of doing an art competition with the children.

"We chose junior and senior infants because they don't really get the chance to get involved with competitions," she said.

The winner will be announced on June 14.
