Three Florida siblings, dubbed the “Dougherty Gang” have been sentenced to 35 years in jail for a cross country crime spree, which ended with a shootout in Colorado.

On August 2nd, 2011, the siblings became fugitives. They fled police in Tampa, Florida, robbed a bank in Georgia and then escaped to Colorado where they were captured after a high speed chase.

Ryan Dougherty (23), Dylan Dougherty Stanley (27) and their sister, Lee Grace Dougherty (30) received identical sentences for their roles in the 2011 robbery of a South Georgia bank. The trio still face charges in Florida where they are accused of shooting a police officer during a high-speed chase.

The judge in the Georgia case said he went beyond normal sentencing guidelines, on Monday, as he believed that their “escapade” could not be condoned.

Senior Judge Hugh Lawson said, “Let me say this - this was a crazy dangerous thing…I just think it is a miracle that no one was killed.”

Before their sentences were read the “Dougherty Gang” apologized to the staff of the Valdosta bank. However the attorneys and siblings agreed, according to the Daily Mail reports, that their other crimes in Colorado and Florida should not have been considered in their sentencing.

When the fugitives were finally caught in August police found two assault rifles, a submachine gun and a handgun in their car.

Here’s a report from last year when the gang were captured:

Agree with merefalow. Obvious that children need fathers as much as mothers. There was an ad a few years ago that showed an older, seemingly overweight fellow dozing in a chair with his son happily sitting on the couch next to the "old man". The benevolent presence itself is 95% of being a parent. In my 'umble opinion.
what a waste of 3 young lives, what heart break for the parents, and where in these 3 youngsters lives did it first start to go so seriously terribly wrong, bet there is a divorce there ,no parental love and father figure dicipline, leads to so many tragic lost children,
