An Indian IT specialist, convicted of the rape of two women, was sentenced to 12-years in prison at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin on Tuesday.

Kapil Garg (35) had been previously jailed in the U.S. for attacking another woman, according to an Irish Times report.

The court heard that Garg was a "well-educated and well-travelled cosmopolitan man of the world," with a MA in computer science from a California college.

On July 2, 2011, Garg met his two victims outside a nightclub at around 3am and invited them back to his apartment in Whitefriar Place in Dublin 8, on the understanding he would give them ecstasy.

Instead he gave his victims anti-depressant tablets, which had sedative properties, before raping them. Police discovered the tablets at his home after the women escaped and reported the attack. He has been in custody since the incident in July 2011.

Garg had pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to the offences, but was convicted following a seven-day trial last October.

Garda John Paul Holland told the court Garg had been previously convicted in the US over a 2004 incident when he broke into a woman's hotel room, and got into bed with her before being chased away.

The jury heard the victims were offered €20,000 from his family as a token of compensation. They said they would regret their decision to go to a stranger's home for the rest of their lives.

“My life has changed forever because of him and he has no remorse” said one of the victims, “I fear even with this conviction, he has not learned his lesson.”

According to the Evening Herald, the computer technician was attacked several times in Cloverhill Prison in Dublin.

In August of 2011, he was held down by two inmates while they tattooed a Nazi swastika on his leg, a previous court hearing heard.

Lets just hope the boys in Clover roll him over and do it again.
why was a criminal conviction not flagged on his passport preventing a criminal entering(i wont say ireland as it has ceased to exist as an independent nation.ENTERING THE EU.AND HOW MANY MORE OF LIKE ILK,there are thousands in the uk and europe, non deportable because of their human rights, their human rights to continue their criminal pursuits.the eu sucks.
12 years? Not long enough. He have done this in the US and done it again in Ireland. He will not stop. |He needed some more serious sentencing... On an another note, yes, the immigration should check the criminal records before granting visas.. That is what most countries do.
I agree with merefalow, although I might have tattooed something a bit more graphic. Perhaps "fish" (the term in a US prison for a brand new member of the jail's population with no idea how to protect himself), or "rat" (pretty universal, someone who tells all to the jail officers to try to curry favor). In prison, fish get raped and rats get killed. The problem is that if he's ever released from prison, he'll rape more ladies. I'm a lady, and while I've been accosted, I've fortunately never been raped. (An old man rubbed up against me on a bus on my way home from school; he would wait until the bus I was riding on came to his stop so he could sit next to me. I was a painfully young 13-year-old well over 50 years ago and if I'd told my mother, she'd have said I must have done something to deserve it, so it was easier to keep it to myself.) Many years later, a man I had dated and sent packing stalked me. At the time, our police ignored such things. I called him out about it at a large party and said if he took things to the next step (breaking into my home), I'd shoot him (I'm so glad we have the right to bear arms in Virginia). He never bothered me again. Several other women thanked me; they were a lot more timid than I was when this happened and they didn't know what to do, since he was stalking them as well. I suggested they arm themselves. He was a serial stalker, so was a very dangerous man. As for his two victims: They have no reason to feel guilty, ashamed, or embarrassed. Two ladies together should be save going to visit a man, even in his home or hotel room. Since Ireland seems to frown on guns, always carry something like a very sharp pencil. Pencils and pointed metal nail files can make excellent weapons in an emergency, and don't worry about causing permanent harm. You always have the right to protect yourself. If you permanently injure him, he's less likely to be attractive to any other women.
should have been on his forehead.
If this man was jailed in the US, how did he get into Ireland? Don't they check to see if someone has a criminal record before they let them live in Ireland??? It's not like he's from an EU country. Wake up Ireland and start checking out foreigners before you let them in.
That is pretty accurate WoundedKnee, maybe he will get a little taste of his own medicine while he serves his time.
Sully: Maybe the Irish didn't have enough indigenous rapists, they needed to import some extra. This jerk isn't by a long way the first foreign migrant rapist to go before the courts in Ireland. Don't anyone be fooled by the 12-year sentence. He'll do maybe four.
Tattoo
To bad they didn't tatto the swastika on his face.
More crimes committed by a foreigner. Such lovely cosmopolitian liberal living!
