A doctor has been struck off by the Irish Medical Council after he attempted to touch, kiss and bite a number of nurses – and tried to smell the underarm of another.

Dr Osmanmahir Mahir failed to make an appearance at his Medical Council fitness to practise hearing in Dublin and was found guilty in his absence.

No longer resident in the country, Mahir told the Council in a letter that he accepted whatever came his way.

One nurse told the hearing that Mahir had grabbed her hand and asked if she was wearing a wedding ring. He allegedly asked: “Where is the men in this world? Why are you still single?”

She also claimed Mahir grabbed her name badge and touched her breast. Hours later he apologised for the incident.

Another nurse said Mahir bit her on the skin of her elbow, saying: “This is what I do to my friends”.

She added: “He didn’t break the skin but left a mark.”

A third nurse revealed that Mahir had commented on her Facebook photo. He said was ‘very, very sexy’ before she deleted him as a ‘friend’ on Facebook.

A fourth nurse told the inquiry that Mahir had kissed her on the shoulder but she ‘put it down to cultural differences’.

The hearing heard that Mahir was accused of professional misconduct and poor professional performance.

The Irish Times
reports that he also failed to appoint any representatives for the purpose of the inquiry.

Medical Council lawyer JP McDowell told the hearing that it was appropriate to proceed as Dr Mahir, with addresses in Leitrim and Sudan, was on notice of the allegations and had been told the hearing date.

Mahir was dismissed from his post at the Adelaide and Meath hospital in Dublin, in April 2009 following allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards at least five nurses.

He was also accused of failing to disclose his dismissal from Tallaght hospital when being interviewed for, and appointed to, a post in emergency medicine at Sligo General hospital later that year.

Sligo hospital consultant Dr Kieran Cunningham told the Medical Council that Mahir had admitted to having ‘bitten or nibbled one of the nursing staff’ while depressed and suffering cultural difficulties.

Mahir claimed to have been suffering from feelings of isolation and cultural differences when he was working in Tallaght and was taking medication at the time.

Ahmed, this is Irish Central not Muslim Central. Go back to your homeland, and take Mahir with you. You could be helping people in your own countries as Doctors. Instead you are chasing the $$$. You seem more interested in that. Western countries spend millions on training Third Worlders to be Doctors and Dentists to benefit your own native countries. You may not really be Ahmed. You may be a Liberal Irish Troll stirring the pot.
If he needs a sniff under my arm,he can go right ahead, however i can guarentee he wont come back for a second helping.
I am a Doctor & I know this doctor personally, he is really wonderful person&he was really depressed,He know lives happy with his new wife in one of the world wealthest countries&gets 5 times the salary there ,Every body makes mistakes and there is at least 1000 doctors in Ireland & almost all them are decent people & they score in medical exams far higher than the irish doctors & the medical council knows that ,thats why the doors are widely open & these doctors are competent enough to go to live and work almost any where they like
If he got a good shlap of a hurley to the face would that be a "cultural difference".
Portia is a racist fool.
@Portia what a thick comment from you. Idiot.
What's worse here - a bite from an immigrant or a punch in the face from a native Irish drunk?
He wouldn't be depressed about cultural differences if he was working in his own country and helping his own people. Is there not enough Irish who aspire to be Doctors? It's true that an Irish Doctor could also have behaved that way, but he would be treated more harshly. There would not be any excuses made for him about "CULTURAL DIFFERENCES" in Politically Correct Ireland.
This is a feminist attempt to get rid of male doctors.
I guess background checks don't work when you're from the Sudan.
This lech probably left the country because a boyfriend, husband, brother of a nurse got wind of his antics and was getting ready to introduce him to some local customs.
Now, this is something which I can agree with! This guy is a complete jerk, cultural differences, or not! By him not seeking counsel, or even showing up for the disciplinary hearing, he knew he was "dead in the water". One thing, though-the Facebook reference. While I would not call any woman's picture "sexy", I would not take offense if a girl made that comment, about one of my Facebook pictures!
oh that open door policy, what i dont understand js,how can a suposedly educated man be so ignorant of the basics of human interaction, let alone doctor patient relationships, without being accused of racism this is not an isolated incident, many times reports of these types of incident are reported perpertrated by docktors from various parts of the world(and yes white doctors are equally guilty and have been found guilty of inapropriate behaviour in the past)but whenever i have worked abroad the companies concerned always ran induction courses to make us aware of the customs and practises of host nations, surely ireland would do the same,,whatever,we place our trust in,lokk up to and should be able to place complete trust in these men,if we cant the system is seriously flawed.
You mean it's not OK to give a female colleague a friendly bite on the elbow? Gee--how is a Sudanese guy to know? So aren't the Irish giving orientation courses to all the Third World "doctors" they have imported and which now dominate the Irish medical "system"? Tip for Americans gong to Ireland for "The Gathering". Avoid contact with the Irish medical "system" at all costs, and even if it costs you a thousand bucks to change your ticket, come back home at the first sign of a medical problem. Better sick and broke on the plane than dying in an Irish hospital, surrounded by Pakistani and Sudanese "doctors". Even the "great" Irish nationalist Gerry Adams got to hell out of Ireland when he needed medical care.
