Eirigi, the Republican protest group, is planning a series of street demonstrations in protest to the planned visit of Queen Elizabeth to Ireland in May.

Exact details of the Queen’s visit have not yet been released, but it is expected that the visit will most probably take place in May and will be confined to Dublin.

Senior police anti-terror officers have begun to draft contingency plans for the royal security, but detailed planning will not begin until an itinerary has been determined.

Eirigi warned this week that Queen Elizabeth was not welcome in Dublin and that plans for her visit would be vigorously opposed.

Brian Leeson, the chairman of the group said, “The last visit to Dublin by an English monarch took place 100 years ago. On that occasion, socialist republicans such as James Connolly and Constance Markievicz were to the forefront in opposing that visit.

"The reasons for their opposition are as valid today as they were then, and Eirigi will lead the opposition in exactly the same spirit."

Leeson claims that the royal visit was proposed to "normalize and legitimize the occupation of the six counties.

"As commander-in-chief of Britain's armed forces, she is the figurehead of those troops who currently occupy the six counties and who invaded and occupied Afghanistan and Iraq."

He added that the group were planning a protest outside the British Embassy in Dublin on Saturday, March 12.

you should get a copy of McKitterick's book Lost Lives - it tells the truth & i know it hurts sometimes, but PIRA needs to hold up its hands & admit to its responsibilties. I lost family members to a PIRA bomb, we were told by PSF that they were collateral damage, i suppose that's what they were in yr ireland - that's why u will never win
Everybody is entitled to their opinion You are obviously devoid of the facts in regards to whom is responsible for most nationalist deaths. I have no intention of engaging in bitter rhetoric with you or your ilk or your childish "he said she said" argumentative style of ignorance.
shame on u sean, u are Pro IRA, everybody is entitled to their opinion, except on your republic scab infested ireland, where the only truth you accept is from PIRA, a terrorist organisation responsible for more murders of NI catholics than the RUC/BA/UVF/UFF put together.
Justhimself another orange bigot. If you can't write a common sense piece why embarrass yourself?

Who the hell is this sicko group, Eirigi. If "these never do well" welfare leeches had to work for a living, feed and house their families, they would have real pride, bar stool republicans, dreaming up reasons to express fake pride. Despite the historic differences, an awful lot of British taxpayers are proud Irish workers and glad to have a job, raise a family free of welfare. Finiance the free loaders in in the North of Irelands bars drinking the dole.
Sinn Fein denounced the the EU I remember the protests as far back as 1966/7 against joining, monaghanjack is confusing fact with fiction I was at these public demonstrations which were organised by my father and others. As far as loans from Britain are concerned your free-stater friends are the guilty party stick to facts boyo.
Ireland, be nice you don't need to protest the queen, rather protest the moslems takin over your culture.
The Queen of England is, as all English monarchs have been for hundreds of years, the head of an occupying nation. Unless her reason for coming is to make Ireland whole, she should be treated as negatively as possible within the bounds of law,
in purely monetary & tourism terms, it's great that she is visiting us as there wull be an economic bounce further down the line, what does it say about the RA, that their enemy can generate more cash for the state in 1 visit then these deluded morons will ever do
Some Republicans cannot be pacified - it's in their genes -they pretend to protest as they allowed Ireland's sovereignty to be signed away as it joined the European Community even though they fought in 1916 for a similar break from Britian. Some Republicans don't know when they're beaten and they're really beaten now seeing that the U.K. has loaned many Billions to the Irish Republic.
Oh please, give it a rest. I think Ireland has enough problems to demonstrate against without this nonsense.
These are the same clowns who threw paint over the Minister for Health. Useless idiots, love to protest and get the attendant publicity but have no answers for anything.
