Thats normal - pvt flying can be dangerous. I've had a couple real close calls, eg the almost head on collision 2 miles high when I was a novice in a relatively high perf plane . Somehting caught my eye, I looked up and just ducked immediatly - pushing the controls forward. He missed me by at most 20 feet And I can just see a very rich mans son, in an even higher performance plane then I had, intent on "getting there" He simply kept going down and down, trying to see the Airport through the fog, which was at water level - something he didnt realize. He hit the water at prob over 100 mph, its like hitting concrete. A combination of inexperience, an I can do it mentality, and maybe he didnt have an instrument license. Along with I bet the airport didnt have a "glide slope" radio landing system that takes you down to eg 200 feet on the right slope. If you cant see the airport at 200 feet, you just climb up and go somewhere else. BTW he could have set the altimeter wrong also. Just a tragedy. I dont seen JFKs premonition as religous, but as a parents concern.
