Belfast woman Caroline Barnes has taken her case to save Lennox the pit bull to the highest court in Northern Ireland.

Barnes has pleaded with judges at the Court of Appeal to save her child’s pet after he was seized by City Council dog wardens in May 2010.

Her two year fight to preserve the dog, now seven, has attracted huge interest across the globe.
An online petition to save Lennox’s life has also gained massive support.

Lawyers for Barnes have told the Court of Appeal that she has not been given enough time to prove the dog can be made safe.

They argued that Lennox had never bitten anyone and had behaved impeccably since being impounded.

Already two lower courts have ruled that Lennox should be destroyed because he poses a danger to the public.

The Irish Times reports that the dog looked set to be put down last September when a County Court judge decided there was ‘too great a risk’.

The report states that the decision only came after the Dangerous Dogs (Amendment) Act 1997 in England and Wales was extended to the North.

New legislation allows for a discretionary element to automatic destruction for pitbull-types, based on whether the animal is deemed a danger to the public.

Lord Chief Justice Sir Declan Morgan told the court that judgment would be given shortly.

I thing that Lord Chief Justice Sir Declan Morgan should set Lennox free immediately. This is ridiculous, the dog is completely innocent and has been incarcerated for years for no reason at all. Do the right thing, FREE LENNOX!

Viewing from the USA, this story is worldwide. From what I gather, emails are being sent to the "Whitehouse", "The British Monarchy", "President of Northern Ireland", "Prince William and Harry", "The Queen of England", Cesar Milan, Linda Blair, -tons of celebrities world-wide are being notified after what happened yesterday (enough is enough). Telephone calls are being made as well. Stories are being written to CNN and various World-wide News Media outlets. Millions worldwide want freedom for this poor dog. The truth is spreading like wildfire that the Warden(s) have lied under oath......tapes are being shown of the Warden playing with Lennox and he being such a wonderful pup. What they are doing is inhumane!!!! FREE THIS DOG...! This is a story that will never fade ever no matter what. I am praying they make a WRONG a RIGHT and free this poor dog. It's all over the place to Boycott Belfast so I hope they do the right thing: FREE LENNOX! LET HIM GO TO SOMEONE IN THE USA OR TO ANOTHER PART OF THE COUNTRY WHERE THERE IS NO PREJUDICE IN THE WAY YOU LOOK!
@Valann54 'right on'. This story is worldwide. I am urging everyone I know to boycott Belfast. Do not patronize this country. To discriminate against an innocent service animal who has committed no crime nor shown any agression is ridiculous. One would think that the Irish would be sensitive to being stereotyped since most people equate Irish people as being drunkards and good for nothing. Is this a fair equation to the Irish? No, just as it is not a fair equation to a dog who resembles a pit bull. The dog was taken from his owners two years ago, I am sure it has not had any good contact and the animal must be confused. If the dog had committed a crime, then yes, death is justified. Since the dog poses such a threat, why not remove some teeth in lieu of killing the dog? In that way it will not be a threat.
Where did my comment go? This dog is being unfairly targeted. It's time animal groups stand up and fight for what is right. This poor dog needs to be freed. I can't believe the inhumane treatment he has received while officials stand by and do nothing!
You sure that isn't byethebay?
seriously this is really ridiculous...he has never bitten, never been aggressive, the wrong house was gone too... meanwhile they use unqualified people to assess him and dismiss qualified people...just ridiculous...this should never ever be allowed to happen again...dogs have feelings as do we..... he is suffering and the latest pictures to be leeked from last july show this...just what is going on in Belfast....this is so wrong...should never have been in court lennox should be home feeling the love of his family not the hate of people who do not care..... get real Belfast...
