eiriamach got it right when she said: "The response to this story is simple: people (the victims, their families, and everyone who cares about the safety of children) need justice. The civil courts are in place to deliver justice. Use them!"

Its so nice of Pittsburghkid to let us know how he or she feels. I hope you will never have to deal with being abused or having a loved one abused. Your views are right up there with the people that covered up the crimes they also put their head in the sand.

Statements like that Pittsburghkid are what lead to perpetrators being let off easy. Makes it a little easier to sweep it under the carpet when people become apathetic.

Well will this excuse of a man stand before us as parents and tell us why he did what he did to our children in Airfield .I am fed up listening to all the excuses,I have heard them all, along with a string of lies from the church over the past 28 years .Will Mr.Carney come back to Dublin and face the courts ? I dont think so. Maybe his good friend Fr. Stenson can help him out,it would,nt be the first time.

Fixated pedophiles can't be cured. Look at molestor Fr. Brendan Smyth who admitted he was a fixated pedophile. The church hierarchy kept sending him for treatment, then letting him loose to reoffend, then back for treatment. What was it, three inpatient hospitalizations - Purdysburn, St. Patrick's, Stroud, with a couple of "retreats" thrown in and outpatient treatment on top of it. Nevertheless he continued and continued to reoffend right up to being carted off to jail in 1994. There is no cure, end of discussion.

It is better for a millstone to be hung around their neck & them to be drowned in the depth of the Sea, than corrupt the innocent. Words by Yahshua the Messiah.
Though I am not judgemental, sins against humans can be forgiven by humans & sin against YAHWEH can only be forgiven by YAHWEH.
Unfortunately, in the case of this article, where due to this crime a victim has sadly taken his life, there is no forgiveness on earth as the victim is not on earth. Infact, the crime is now increasingly seriously as the Soul of the victim is constantly crying out for justice.
This indeed is extremely sad.
Those who do not understand the names YAHSHUA & YAHWEH they are the original names removed from Scripture. The former is the name of 'Our Father' & the latter is Christ the Messiah. Jesus is a false name used deliberately to mislead.

95% of sex offenders re-offend. What's there to discuss?

How dare you try and make out that your pedophilia is some kind of illness that can be cured just like you claim, your alcoholism. You futher state=you were given A chance to stop drinking and begin again to live a good life and be a good person. But you have have said that you will never, ever abuse any child again.'Once an abuser, always an Abuser. You are just fooling yourself and the rest of the world,by claiming you're cured.Look-up-wikipedia and type in the word-pedophilia and you'll find these words= No cure for pedophilia has been developed.

Absolutely not.
Let him minister to the elderly.. clergy that is, and save the taxpayer's money.
What lies in the subconscious can break through and the older one gets, the power over the will diminishes, as with alcohol and I'm sue he wouldn't be a teetotaler.

Carney states "...I pleaded guilty to two charges in 1983 and the matter was dealt with by the court and I was sentenced.” Therefore the State covered up the rest of his crimes by not prosecuting him - or - the other alleged 'crimes' were all false claims. @AngelPrecious - there is no statute of limitations on criminal offences in Ireland. In fact the Gardai have a specialised unit dealing with, and prosecuting 'cold crimes', many of which go back over 30 years. That's not to say that anyone accused of Paedophilia could necessarily face prosecution, IF the legislation criminalising it wasn't in place. They could however, possibly face charges of "having Carnal Knowledge", which while not being exactly the same as paedophilia, does have the same criminal consequences and sentencing.
