Irish golf analyst David Feherty has aplogized over joking that "any U.S. soldier" would kill top Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid if given the opportunity.

Feherty, of CBS - who once wrote a book called "Somewhere in Ireland a Village is Missing an Idiot" - is in the rough because of comments he made in "D" magazine in Dallas.

The County Down native wrote: “From my own experience visiting the troops in the Middle East, I can tell you this though. Despite how the conflict has been portrayed by our glorious media, if you gave any US soldier a gun with two bullets in it, and he found himself in an elevator with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Osama bin Laden, there’s a good chance that Nancy Pelosi would get shot twice, and Harry Reid and bin Laden would be strangled to death.”

Feherty apologized to Reid and Pelosi, although presumably not bin Laden, after a furore broke out over the comments.

Feherty, who has his own unique brand of shtick that, added to his knowledge of the game and outgoing personality, makes him an extremely popular play-by-play caller for CBS.

However, the broadcasting network did not like the look of Feherty’s latest shot and issued the following statement.

“We want to be clear that this column . . . is an unacceptable attempt at humor and is not in any way condoned, endorsed or approved by CBS Sports,”

Feherty, who won 10 times as a pro, played in the 1991 Ryder Cup and retired in 1997.

Since quitting the game, he moved to Texas and has built a reputation for himself for a witty broadcaster with a good rapport with the players.

It's a relationship Feherty has been known to push sometimes.  A couple of weeks ago, the 50-year- old asked Tiger, “Do You feel like a loser” after Woods failed to win the Quail Hollow Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina.
