UPDATE: Presidential candidate Dana Rosemary Scallon vows to continue campaign
Irish Presidential candidate Dana Rosemary Scallon’s brother and campaign advisor, John Brown, was accused by his brother-in-law, Dr. Ronald Stein, of sexually abusing Stein’s daughter in 2008.
An investigation by IrishCentral.com has unearthed court documents which show that Dr Ronald Stein, the husband of Dana’s sister Susan, alleged that John Brown sexually abused their daughter for over a decade.
The Independent candidate hinted that the allegations were about to emerge during a presidential debate on Wednesday night in which she described the claims as “malicious” and “vile”.
The claims were made during a 2008 court dispute which focused on a number of copyright issues, including the payment of royalties by Heart Beat Records, a Christian music company the family had established in the U.S.
Although seemingly unrelated to the claims of either party, during his testimony, Dr Stein, a dentist in Iowa and one of the named parties in the action, told the court that his brother in law John had phoned the family home in early 2005, to confess to abusing his daughter.
“In January of 2005 John Brown called me at home and apologized for abusing my daughter for over a period of 12 years. He said he was sorry, he knew that God had forgiven him, and he would like to ask me for my forgiveness,” Dr Stein told the court.
Stein continued, “Then he asked, well, what about Heart Beat, and I said you're finished with Heart Beat, you will have nothing to do with Heart Beat, you will have nothing to do with my family.”
John Brown later resigned from the company on January 28 2005.

Mud continues to fly in Irish presidential race
________________
According to the pleadings, the company was initially formed in 1985 as Reilly'O Corporation by John Brown, his sister Susan and her husband Ron. When Dana’s music profile increased in the U.S. she and her husband Damien joined the company which evolved into Heart Beat Records.
Although Brown did not appear or testify in person at the trial, he had given deposition testimony prior to the trial. This testimony was introduced during the hearing, which lasted a number of days.
The judge quoted an email in his ruling sent by Dana to her sister Susan in 2005, in which she addressed her brother’s resignation from the company.
“I know that the terrible manner in which John was forced from the company was nothing other than a business move to secure ownership. Is anything worth it?” Dana’s email stated.
In his ruling, Judge Charles Wolle said that he was convinced, “that no witness spoke only the truth. All, including those testifying by deposition, exaggerated to some extent, some more than others”.
After the first three days of trial, Dana and her husband Damien attempted to have court transcripts relating to Dr Stein’s sexual abuse allegations redacted prior to public release, arguing that they had no bearing on the facts of the case. However, the Judge denied their application and allegations by Dr. Stein against John Brown remain.
When IrishCentral spoke with Susan Stein on Thursday, she refused to discuss the allegations.

I know too well, about these things. I know how it is easy to react, jump the gun. I can hear my own children talking up in the kitchen, with their mummy as I tap this useless thing down here. I know how hard it is to deal with the aftermath of knowing that your own children have been raped by there relatives. I know how the iron curtain drops down and is bolted to the floor if you try to stand against them. The perpetrators stare you down and there affiliates, who in the face of ordinary life are perceived to be the most kindly, caring and wonderful individuals, turn there backs on you, as if you were the one who were the perpetrator. These affiliates can take tea, attend weddings wakes and christening. laugh and joke alongside the very people who raped there own children. It's bizzare beyond comprehension. I don't know about "The Dana Thing" but what I do know is that her reaction and the timing of her reaction is perfectly normal in this alice in wonderland world. Dana claims that these vile allegations are all a ploy to undermine her presidential bid. Dana doesn't have a snowdrops chance in hell of winning, with or without the allegations. Although in a mad way the allegations could her get a higher percentage of the popular vote. The auld symphaty vote still works well here in Paddyville, elsewhere and beyond. I'm not running for any presidential campaigne but what I have done is write a very contreversial play called "The Nest" all about this kind of thing. So if there is anyone out there with a bit of clout, get in touch, this is so important and needs to be heard right for all the right reasons, that are me and you. Anyways, I guess I just want to know what if anything happened to Dana's niece. Is she just like us

mehereinireland, you make good points, but we must always observe the principle that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. That applies, naturally, also to Dana and her brother. However, the allegations against her brother were made years ago. At the time, IMHO, Dana should have gone to the authorities to have the matter properly and professionally investigated, and either the molester brought to justice or the accuser, if the accusation was just a spiteful and hateful ploy in a family spat about money ("mammon"). Those who falsely accuse others of abusing children are themselves abusers, because their crying "wolf" only reduces the likelihood of abused children being listened to when they try to tell someone they have been abused. A person with such a cavalier attitude to the welfare of children is not fit to be a dog catcher in Upper Slobovia, much less the President of an ancient and, however flawed, venerable country like Ireland.

Personal life of mcguinness He married Bernadette Canning in 1974. They have four children, two girls and two boys[25] McGuinness is a fan of the Derry Gaelic football and hurling teams[26] and played both sports when he was younger.[26] He grew up just 50 metres from Celtic Park, the home of Derry GAA.[26] His brother[26] Tom played Gaelic football for Derry and is regarded as one of the county's best ever players.[27] Among his honours are three Ulster Senior Football Championship medals, as well as Ulster Under 21 and All-Ireland Under 21 Championship medals.[28] McGuiness is a member of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association, meaning that he does not drink alcohol.[29]

If this story is correct and her brother abused his niece What is wrong with that woman she has daughters herself how could you cover up for anyone that committed such a vile crime - she should be locked up with her brother if it turns out to be true - as for her getting President two chances - SLIM & None
FatherVol | Oct 15, 2011, 11:12 AM EDT
And this is being reported for what reason? To smear Dana's name? To paint faith-filled people as masqueraders? The journalism on this site panders to the lowest common denominator way, way too often.
cuddlybuddly | Oct 15, 2011, 06:01 AM EDT
The allegations are extremely serious if a child has been sexually abused for over a decade, there will have to be an investigation to see if the allegations are in fact true before anyone can comment. Dana herself has done nothing wrong, it's her brother that has allegedly comitted a vile crime...She would want to be very cautious about protecting her brother from the consequences of this crime, IF he indeed is guilty...that is what The Catholic Church has done with the priests...Police investigation required

Dana is a complete and utter fraud

The candidates for the presidential election are so boring. No it is not the work of the devil or any other demonic forces/ Have you read your post jmjjjmd you sound like some mediavel soothsayer for god sakes if this happened what would be be voting in as president of Ireland. Anyway we don't need one at the moment when it is costing more than we can afford Do you not realise that people can't afford to keep the roof over their heads over here and the Government that we have at the moment what forgotten what it is like to live in the real world.

jmjjlmd | Oct 14, 2011, 06:12 PM EDT
Dana This is the work of the devil. Dont give up. Ireland the land of Saints and Scholars is under demonic attack and the last thing satan wants is a President who will uphold the Christian values Ireland has been known for throught the centuries. Wounded though you are remain at your post and do the masters bidding. The good people of this country are praying with you. When Ireland turns back to the sacred word of God it will rise like a phoenix from the ashes and be the envy of the world God bless you.
Stropaire | Oct 14, 2011, 05:08 PM EDT
Yeah, You know that here in Ireland almost everyone are still in the dark about what the reason for TV outburst was. Dosen't she know that it is not always the act that causes the problem for those in politics, but the cover-up? One might say that it is a "family" issue, but if she knew or suspected that a relative was being abused, did she report it to the (civil) authorities or just follow the traditional catholic method of saying nothing?
Claire2 | Oct 14, 2011, 04:41 PM EDT
Mr. Stein sounds like a nasty piece of work! This reminds me of something I once heard of LBJ; when he was circulating false information about his opponents and was told it was not true, he replied that he knew very well this was the case but he was going to have great fun in seeing them deny it!!! Thank heavens we have much stricter libel laws in Ireland and the papers cannot publish false accusations, such as those which were made by Stein about the brother-in-law he eventually drove from the company. Why is this article printed here when no report of the alleged wrongdoing was ever made to the police? I think people need to know that Niall O'Dowd is a brother of the Irish government minister, Fergus O'Dowd. Could it be just a coincidence that this article has been resurrected by a publication of his??!!
MeathMike | Oct 14, 2011, 04:35 PM EDT
I am not a Dana fan, but is article is pretty awful and is journalism at its lowest form. These are unsubstantiated allegations made in the midst of a obviously complex family dispute. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I must thank my parents for giving me such a wonderful childhood. As I grow older and hear the sad stories of others I realise what a blessed life I have been granted. And don't let it stop God.

Are all Irish candidates for President tainted in some way?
biggles008 | Oct 14, 2011, 11:00 AM EDT
If you win a singing comp' you are eligable to become president.Dana, Cop on and don't be wasting money.
mcdolan | Oct 14, 2011, 10:46 AM EDT
Why rake up this muck? Dana has only a snowball's chance of getting elected anyway (too defensive, too single-issue), and this stuff has nothing to do with her the candidate.
Towngate | Oct 14, 2011, 08:13 AM EDT
....and she still pumps out all this 'God' stuff.... Goodbye Dana! Here's your coat and what's your hurry ....
gobdawpaddy | Oct 14, 2011, 07:44 AM EDT
During the debate with Miriam on Wednesday night, Dana appeared to be one can short of a carry pack. While I think the whole Iriosh presidency is an expensive joke, of the candidates running if I had a vote I would probably have to give it to Micahel D. or Gay M. The rest of them have too much baggage.
tomveil | Oct 14, 2011, 12:41 AM EDT
How could she think that the proceedings of a court case would not become known, and to suggest it is a private matter is nonsense - once it is in the court it is (almost) always a matter of public record. A president with this poor judgment is not needed.
