Re the picture, that man looks like he's really struggling to read. Now that's what Northern Ireland really needs: a short sighted terrorist!
The problem is Schon the Brits are not asking for info from both sides of the divide only from the nationalist side. You are obviously OK with that and the PIRA have handed in their weapons. You are just another British apologist which negates your opening line.
Terrorists, no matter from which side, should be brought to book. That Delores and Brendan just couldn't help themselves in relating their part in killing innocent people and ratting out their former comrades, has been a common problem to the Irish in their intolerance and racist fight against the proddies in the North and the Brits in general. The worry besides implicating Adams in the murder of Jean, is that the overt PIRA planning for the destruction of jobs in republican areas and the criminalisation of young Roman Catholics by promoting rioting will come into the public domain. With some luck ADams and ilk will get their comeuppence.
Totally agree with Seamusmor - we need to hear the truth about Jean McConville - Boston College owe that to the Irish people. No college has the right to toy with the grief of relatives unless they are prepared to be truthful.
great way to kick it off again, there is an agenda at work here, peace for ALL the people of n i.should be more important than trying to obtain convictions against either side,no matter what people think of the justice of it.to go back to that nightmare,.
It was never about McConville, the Brits couldn't give two humps about her.The rise of Sinn Fein as a main stream political force is the real issue and they will dig up any dirt they can to "get Adams".
What were the people who gave these interviews thinking? Did they really think that this would not be used against them just because a journalist and a former friend assured them? I know many who were approached for this and laughed them off the stoop, did not even get thru the door. I have great respect and admiration for Brendan Hughes and Dolours Price but they made a horrible decision. As for Gerry, let the pieces fall where they may, he's nothing but a no good traitor anyway.
Boston College has a moral duty to comply with the law, they have no moral duty to protect persons believed to be involved in criminal activity
The Troubles are starting all over again. There is nothing but very personal and negative info to be released. Many are guilty on both sides and none are punished except the victims.
Just when you think faith in any institution can't get any less. TaDa! BC doesn't feel any moral obligation to keep it's word, as donal1951 pointed out, or they're like double agents. I still think the tapes belong in the Charles River.
The other unspoken mistake was for the IRA to assume that anyone, on earth, can keep a secret.
Confusing article. Not clear if the BC interviewers had a bias for or against the peace process.
Boston College had no obligation to conduct due diligence with respect to the potential liabilities faced by the participants of the oral history project. Justice for Jean McConville is more important than the future of oral history projects. If Adams falls from power after a murder indictment, it will be due to his actions, not because his opponents what to drive him out.
The law school at BC obviously didnt properly complete due diligence. For a law school that hardly speaks well.
Boston College, which has a decent law school, has no excuse for making a claim of confidentiality it could not back up. It has a moral obligation to keep the tapes secret, no matter what it takes.
