Republican Congressman Peter King has vowed to stand his ground regarding yesterday’s controversial hearings into radical Islamists, despite calls from various public groups.

On Thursday King, as chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, chaired a series of hearings which targeted Muslims in the U.S. and their role in terrorism.

"To back down would be a craven surrender to political correctness and an abdication of what I believe to be the main responsibility of this committee to protect America from a terrorist attack," he said at the four-hour hearing yesterday.

Congressman John Dingell of Michigan was one of a number of Democrats who spoke against the hearing.

Speaking of his Muslim constituents, Dingell said, "They are almost, without exception, honorable, loyal citizens.  And as I've indicated, they are distressed as much as we are about the behavior of Al Qaeda and other threats to their nation as we are to sharing their concerns about what is of danger to our nation."

King revealed on Wednesday that he had tightened his security detail after he receieved “hostile phone calls” and threats.

The hearings have been slammed as “political show trial,” and compared to the Communist witch-hunts of the 1950s led by Senator Joe McCarthy.

Critics have labeled King as “America's new McCarthy.”

Despite this King said he was not willing to “back down to the hysteria created by my opponents.”

Addressing his supporters through an email, King said the hearings has been “demonized” but he has vowed to go ahead with them.

He also included a link in his email to a YouTube video entitled “Rep. King Doing His Job by Holding Radicalization Hearings.”

King has called for the Muslim community in the U.S. to step up its efforts to renounce Al Qaeda and work more closely with law enforcement.

This week King said his efforts were not an attempt to stir up anti-Muslim fervor in America.

He said in an interview with the Associated Press, “You have a violent enemy from overseas which threatens us and which is recruiting people from a community living in our country. That's ... what this hearing's going to be.”

Earlier this week King defended his support of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) during the height of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

He said his issue against Muslims in America is not comparable with his past support of the IRA because they had “never attacked America.”

He said, “I understand why people who are misinformed might see a parallel. The fact is, the IRA never attacked the United States. And my loyalty is to the United States.”

King has the right idea. The teachings of Islam are completely opposite of what we believe in this country. We should not change our ideals for them nor tolerate the teachings of Islam.
let him get on with it, it shows the rest of the world especially mid east & europe, the hypocricy of the irish republican movement, u can slaughter innocents as long as u are wearing the IRA uniform, but everybody else is a terrorist. as a recruiting sergent for al qaeda, there is no better person.
Peter King got what he wanted: national coverage - and probably more sales of his book. Nobody outside of NY had heard of him until the hearings. What happened to the reasonable man we used to know?
Hearings don't kill people, but thank God, someone does know who will kill you and me!!!
be careful of superficial thinking.there is no issue with the IRA in the US.
kudos kudos - I know this idea will not go down well with those among us who keeps we sheep in a stupid brainwashed atate. i came full circle on the kings hearings - i'm hoping it extends to others with which to flush out reasons as to why we give aid, and as to who's responsible for causing muslims and others to hate us so.
Kudos to Congressman King..at least he has got guts to move forward. Just who the hell do these radical Muslims & groups think they are? How can anyone forget 911? Take your political correctness and put it where the sun does not shine! King is doing the right thing..thank God someone in Washington is on top of this! If these Muslim groups don't like it, they can leave this country... as far as the " Good Muslims"..they need to speak out against this terrorism and violent teaching and support Congressman King if they expect any respect from good American Citizens!
The Sharia Law is being taught to all muslims. That is not right. You can be a friend to a muslim all you life, and then he can turn around and kill you.. All in the name of Sharia Law. Yes this Sharia Law is being taught to all the muslims who atten the Mosques. First the Muslims taugh LOVE to the prisoner in jail and convinced those people that all is love. The captive audience doesn't have any idea about what Sharia Law is trying to do to their loved ones, especially the females in their families.
Frank Gaffney, columnist for the Washington Times reports 75% of Mosques in the USA teach Islamic Sharia Law, which permits a husband to kill his wife, or daughter if they dishoner him.
The majority of Americans want the hearings. Keep in mind our home grown radicalized muslims are being radicalized in Mosques here in the United States.
If the United States is so bad or you can't be loyal to the country then leave. It is an easy fix. Oh, by the way, please refuse our financial aid because we could use it to pay down our debt and help our own citizens in these times of need.
We don't need anyone who isn't loyal to the United States. Are you loyal or not?
