The Belfast owners of the dog condemned to death because of his likeness to a pit-bull have made a final appeal to save his life.

Caroline Barnes is the heartbroken owner of Lennox, the dog whose story has touched dog lovers throughout the world.

On September 30, a Belfast judge dismissed the owners’ appeal to spare the life of the six-year-old pet. The family were told they had three weeks to study the Belfast Court judgment and to try to propose a final plea. The Belfast Telegraph reports that the family has found a point of law they can appeal in court. A spokeswoman for the Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland told the Belfast Telegraph it is likely the appeal will be lodged today.

Under Northern Ireland laws, pit bulls are banned. However, the dog is an American bull dog cross according to the family.

Lennox was originally impounded by Belfast City Council in May 2010, when officers called to the Barnes’ home to check the status of the dog’s license. Lennox was considered to be acting aggressively and as a result was seized and placed in custody.

So far an online petition to save Lennox has clocked up 117, 004 signatures.
