If Bloomberg's proposed budget passes, some residents with special needs may be forced to move away to some other place. Souldn't the needy and the destitute be the responsibility of the federal governmemt?
In London, I notice all the homeless hang around the public libraries all day. They get a laptop off the trolley, sit at one of the desks (thereby preventing any students or genuine library users from sitting there) turn it on, and then promptly nod off, their head having crashed into the keyboard, so that when they wake up 5 hours later, they have QWERTYUIOP embossed on the side of their face. Then they get up at closing time and leave. Sometimes they take the mickey and sit near the magazine rack, lying on top of each other and snoring loudly, pretending not to hear the librarian imploring them to wake up, at which point the cops are called to remove them. They also make the library toilets a no-go area because they strip off and have a wash, much to the consternation of library members. This is a direct result of government closing down shelters and day centres and simply expecting the problem to go away. It doesn't. It simply becomes somebody else's problem. I feel very sorry for these poor people, but a lot of them have severe problems and the state should provide facilites to help them, that's what I pay taxes for.
