Chicago’s Irish community introduces ‘Natasha McShane Day’
The organizers of HelpNatasha.net, a group of Chicago’s Irish Community have named June 13 “Natasha Day” in aid of Natasha McShane an Irish student who was beaten brutally with a baseball bat last month.
Two fundraisers will be held in Chicago on the day, at the Irish American Heritage Center and Gaelic Park. All the proceeds from the events will go to the McShane family to help to pay for Natsha’s medical bills.
Natasha McShane, from Armagh, and her friend Stacy Jurich were beaten severely around the head and back over a month ago. Their attackers are being charged with attempted murder.
Jurich is recovering slowly at home while McShane remains in a rehabilitation facility and is still showing limited brain function. She is showing signs of improvement, regaining consciousness and managing limited movement. Her family, from Ireland, is maintaining a constant vigil at her bedside.
The Gaelic Park event will run from three to nine pm and will include live music from some of Chicago’s finest musicians who have donated their time and talent for the cause. There will also be silent auctions and raffles. Over in the Heritage Centre the event will take place after a mass from Father Karl Langsdorf at noon.
The girls attackers, Heriberto Viramontes and Marcy Cruz, are being held pending their next hearing. They have been charged with attempted murder as part of the 25-count indictment.
