In the wake of Robert F Kennedy Jr’s ex-wife Mary’s suicide this month, it is revealed that his new girlfriend, actress Cheryl Hines, had taken to Twitter to share with followers the new life that the two were embarking upon together.
In tweets from weeks prior to Mary Richardson-Kennedy’s death, Hines tweeted pictures with Mary’s friends and children, displaying how comfortable she was becoming in her new role as girlfriend of RFK Jr.
The DailyMail reports on the tweets which have since been deleted by Hines. Although Hines deleted her Twitter account (@RealCherylHines) around the same time as her boyfriend RFK Jr’s ex-wife’s suicide, they were retained by social media search engine Topsy. The tweets that have been saved reveal a happy new life blossoming between not only Cheryl and RFK Jr, but also amongst Cheryl and RFK Jr’s family and friends.
There is no doubt that RFK Jr is a high-profile American, and combining his political connections with Hines’ celebrity, the two are sure to be well talked about. As the son of assassinated Senator Robert Kennedy, and nephew of the late President John F Kennedy, RFK Jr now serves as vice-chair of Riverkeeper, a New York clean water advocacy organization, while Hines is a popular television actress.
A Twitter post from Cheryl Hines' now defunct account from February 5 read, “Rabid, unhinged New England zealotry by 10-yr-old Aidan Kennedy has nearly turned me into Pats fan.” Aidan is Robert and Mary’s child, one of three children the couple had together before divorcing in spring of 2010.
Even further, and perhaps distressing to the late Mary Kennedy, are tweets which show Cheryl getting chummy with actress Glenn Close and RFK Jr’s sister-in-law Kerry Kennedy, both of whom were dear friends of Mary. Kerry was the first person to introduce Mary and her future ex-husband RFK Jr, and Glenn and Mary were so close that Glenn sang at Mary’s funeral.
On the same day that Kerry Kennedy posted a picture of RFK Jr, Glenn Close, and Cheryl HInes smiling together, Hines tweeted on her own account saying, “I got to tell #GlenClose what an inspiration she has always been to me.”
A source revealed to the New York Post that Mary found Cheryl and RFK Jr’s new and public relationship “humiliating”, “She faced losing her kids, and his relationship with Cheryl Hines was humiliating. At an event last month, he walked the red carpet with Cheryl as a couple and took the kids,” a source told The New York Post last week, referring to the Riverkeeper Annual Fisherman’s Ball in late April, an organization on which RFK Jr serves as vice chair.
Tensions arose surrounding the final arrangements for Mary’s life. Ultimately, RFK Jr claimed the body of his ex-wife and was awarded full custody of his children and the whole of Mary’s $4million estate, despite being challenged by Mary’s lawyer brother Thomas Richardson. RFK Jr held a funeral and burial that was attended by only one of Mary’s siblings. Mary’s family then hosted an alternate memorial service which celebrated the life of Mary, though her children and estranged husband did not attend.
During the funeral mass, Mary’s ex-husband RFK Jr spoke tearfully of the “sadness that kicked her and chased her.”
However, sources close to Mary deny any type of depression.
“Battling demons? That's hyperbolic language,” Carole Radziwill told People magazine. “I didn't see anything close to that. She truly believed in the goodness of people. In the end that was her undoing.”
Another friend said, “Mary did not have a history of depression. She became a troubled person because of the divorce.”

What a horrible, horrible article. What was Ms. Hines supposed to do? Not make friends with his children? Your implication appears to be that she was the cause of the poor woman's death. She deleted the tweets after the suicide. What pathetic "Journalism", worthy of the National Inquirer or a Murdoch Brit Rag.

Some advice, Ms Hines. Do not get in a car with him if he says: "Let's go for a drive to Chappaquiddick. If you must go, wear a life preserver.

RFK junior had four kids with Mary, not three. He has two others with first wife Emily Black.

What goes around will eventually come back around. What a disgrace of a woman AND man.

Any woman who feels she has a right to "play mom" to another womans children should be ashamed of themselves. As far as depression goes, a divorce takes years to get over and everyone has a right to grieve as needed, when this happens as a mother, you do not grieve for the spouse you grieve for your children, for their lives, until you live it you have no idea what children go thru. Cheryl will never be of the same quality as their mother, no matter how many pics you take with another woman's children, you can never fill-in. In the end, watch closely because you seen your future in the life of his former wife. Your treatment will be the same. May you be blessed with what you gave! Woman's right: Guess what, when we as women do this other women, we take three steps back......
