Catholic priest Fr Piero Corsi has stirred up some controversy in the wake of his Christmas message in which he asserts that with women becoming increasingly “provocative,” they have brought physical and sexual violence upon themselves.
The Journal reports on Father Corsi’s Christmas message, which was posted on the door of his church in the small parish of San Terenzo, near Lerici and La Spezia in northwest Italy. Father Corsi’s went viral after angry locals posted it to Facebook, where it spread first nationally and then internationally.
In the message, Father Corsi wrote “How often do we see girls and mature women going around scantily dressed and in provocative clothes?”
“They provoke the worst instincts, which end in violence or sexual abuse. They should search their consciences and ask: did we bring this on ourselves?”
In the message, Father Corsi went on to say that he believed the 118 women killed in acts of domestic violence in Italy in 2012 were a result of men being pushed to their limits.
He continued, “Is it possible that all of a sudden men have gone mad? We don’t believe it.”
“The fact is that women are increasingly provocative, they become arrogant, they believe themselves to be self-sufficient and end up exacerbating the situation. Children are abandoned to their own devices, homes are dirty, meals are cold or fast food, clothes are filthy.”
Luigi Ernesto Palletti, the region’s bishop, responded to Father Corsi’s message by saying the message was “unacceptable and go against the church’s common feeling on the matter."
Despite reports saying otherwise, Father Corsi is insisting that he has not resigned in the wake of the controversy.
The mayor of San Terenzo said the message had left the town’s residents “dumbfounded and indignant.” An elderly female resident told Sky Italia television that Corsi “should keep a low profile as he has lots of secrets he would not wish to come out.”

A woman hater eh fr Piero Corsi, probably more interested in the chior boys than women eh?

Makes you wonder what was the provocation that resulted in 15,000 children being abused in Irish institutions by clergy. This is victim blaming - something this guys organisation is expert at.

The adult human body will always get the attention of other adults. The real question is our development of self control and the respect shown to others. The question this Priest should have asked is; what are our children wearing that attracts the attention of certain trusted individuals within the Church's (it ain't just a Catholic thing) ??? Slainte!

To the Christian Taliban leadership on IC being "Woodsman" and "Smyrnian": et ilk Facts: 1) As Todd Akin and Mourdack guy your fellow Christian Talibaners who in a single sentence, took themselves out of slam-dunk Senate races, medieval science and casting rape victims (provocatively dressed-deserved it) as ungrateful for God's gift of life is out of even the fringe of mainstream ethics. 2) The Christian Taliban RC hierarchy are pedo enablers who should be prosecuted under RICO statutes at a minimum; They surrendered their moral authority on any sexual or women's issues. 3)Look around you. Comments by this so-called moral authority on sex-related issues above and rape has been effectively repudiated. Catholic Institutions world wide

And what on earth does this have to do with Ireland or Irish immigrants/emigrants? Well at least they did not claim that somebody with the last name of "Ireland" was "rish-American." That was just plain weird.
SingleDonald | Dec 31, 2012, 10:39 AM EST
Concerning Springfield9's post of yesterday, I would not slap a woman back, nor would I report her for assault. I would yell at her, and suggest she get hold of herself! If she continued to slap me, I would grab her wrists, in a restraining move. If she then attempted to punch/kick me in the groin area, THEN all chivalrous courtesies would cease. I would likely punch her in the face, breasts, or ovary area! Hopefully, I will never be put into such a position. I still maintain that it is wrong to hit a girl, even if she slaps us. After all, we were all taught, as young boys, to refrain from such behavior. We all can take a slap: it might even feel good, coming from certain girls!
SingleDonald | Dec 31, 2012, 10:28 AM EST
This priest is confused, but so are certain women. If a girl dresses in a revealing outfit (mini skirt, low cut blouse, etc.), that doesn't give any guy the right to sexually interact with her, without her consent. However, some women are very insecure when men look at them. I, and every other guy, have a right to tactfully look at any woman, especially if she draws attention to herself, with her clothing, or lack thereof. Similarly, women have the right to look at us, and this interest will be increased if a guy in question wears a tight pair of shorts, or bathing suit.I feel that the opposite sex should take this visual attention as a compliment! Women reporters DO look at nude athletes, in the locker rooms. So long as the athlete takes it all off, knowing women are present, he should expect to be looked at; it is a normal "girl thing"!
Smyrnian | Dec 31, 2012, 10:03 AM EST
Red hand dislikes dissenting views. The reaction is not one of intellectual engagement with the facts but to try to discredit others. Pitiful, juvenile and decidedly lacking in professionalism; but then again, this is IC so the standard is the lowest.
redhand32 | Dec 31, 2012, 09:35 AM EST
Fr. Corsi, "Smyrnian, and Woodsman aka The Christian Taliban !
redhand32 | Dec 31, 2012, 09:34 AM EST
The right wingnuts like this priest, Smyrnian and Woodsman "My Church right or wrong" on all occasions are not unlike Wild Bill Donovan of the Catholic League who comprise collectively the Christian Taliban ! I am a Catholic who hangs out most mornings with a Methodist pastor. We talk of Evangeklism often and the future of the Church among the young. I always point out stories about peachers burning Korans, Bishops who mandate parashes to "instruct" their parishioners to vote for fellow right wing nuts including Romney-Ryan under pain of damnation, and other crazies like the above players, how the young especially just turn off the essential Christian message. Yet, the Taliban, as did Cromwell, and the fanatics before them and since ramble on their unbridled Ignorant Arrogance, -- worn as Badges of Honor in their Taliban world.
Smyrnian | Dec 31, 2012, 08:13 AM EST
Woodman - of course, that's what you have here on lefty, anti-Catholic, pro-abortion IC. It's they reason it exists.
Woodman | Dec 31, 2012, 03:13 AM EST
Everyone knows what the Priest meant and it's only the hypocrites who already hate the church who are taking offense. And something is lost in the translation from the original Italian. You should be able to leave your door unlocked without being robbed, that's the way it once was but not today.
seanomelb | Dec 31, 2012, 01:14 AM EST
Priests who condemn women are of the same ilk as Muslims who bet women when raped or Jews who force their wives to shave off their hair and forbid them from praying at the wailing wall. Most religions are run by men and the fear the power of women. I recommend all women of all religions free themselves and become atheists.
EphraimKibbey | Dec 31, 2012, 01:01 AM EST
stanJames - I know that it is HARD to keep ALL the CLOWNS from the last election straight! Akin was running for Senator Clair McCaskle's seat in Missouri and said that raped women have a way to shut down their bodies so that they do not become pregnant. I know, I know, it is hard to believe he said it but I watched him say it several times myself. The guy who made the aspirin comment was one of the big money contributors to the GOP superpacs but I can't remember his name. I'm 63 but when I was in my teens, they used to tell girls that if they put an aspirin between their knees, they could not get pregnant. The idea being that it was THEIR responsibility to keep THEIR knees together to prevent intercourse. That was the condescending way women used to be treated. I guess that in some places they still are. These guys are really all the SAD type of clown.
stanJames | Dec 31, 2012, 12:12 AM EST
THE pRIEST REMINDS ME of congressman Akin who said if a woman was raped she should put an aspirin between her knees (to prevent pregnancy????????) . Fortunately that clown lost his job in the last election. IMHO boht of them - their subconciousness was telling us they raped somemone, the Priest almost certainly a child.
stanJames | Dec 31, 2012, 12:07 AM EST
This guy reminds me of that Republican Akin who said something about a woman if raped should put an aspirin between her knees. Fortunately Akin in the last election got sent to what we all hope is the political garbage dump.............My only possible comment on Akin and this priest is that their conscious is betraying what they have done.
EphraimKibbey | Dec 30, 2012, 09:20 PM EST
The one below is mine!
EphraimKibbey | Dec 30, 2012, 09:17 PM EST
Now for my real post. Obviously this Priest/Man is tempted by the REAL world (which he willingly resigned) and is having trouble maintaining his vows. He should consider this, if there was no temptation, would there be any saintly reward in resisting it? I think this article dovetails nicely with the earlier one on IC about the IRISH priest who said that the little boys provoked the priests into raping them and that the priests were not to be blamed. These are the "LOG IN THEIR OWN EYE" moments that our Lord warned us about and that the MEN of the RCC church seem to be so oblivious. Maybe the church needs to add SALTPETER to their diets if they are not up to dealing with their hormones by themselves.
Gearoid4 | Dec 30, 2012, 09:00 PM EST
The comment of this priest is clearly unacceptable, but it seems that IC has traveled quiet a distance outside the normal "Irish-American" sphere of interest to discover it. I guess they have too much time on their hands and spend a lot of it trying to gather anti-Catholic material.
EphraimKibbey | Dec 30, 2012, 08:57 PM EST

This priest is a misogynist pig.
PiperMac52 | Dec 30, 2012, 06:50 PM EST
Do context and common sense mean anything these days? The Good father was obviously was referring to the cultural debasement and the more aggressive nature of women in relationships, thrown in with alluring attire and men in their primal state will react. Can a priest or Christian minister say nothing these days without a backlash by the left-wing moral relativists who despise any kind of recrimination, which by the way is the duty of religious.

Notice the ads zooming in on the "you know what" in pants backside zooming views or pant leg separation - fine for some ladies if not all the copycats leaving guys salivating like beagles with great expectation ending in slap bang order of protection due to testoserone madness. Honesty is not the best policy when attempts are made trying to protect the Now gaga crowd.
cillowen | Dec 30, 2012, 05:57 PM EST
what does she have say on this priest who is not politically correct - as is required in today's world "elderly female resident told Sky Italia television that Corsi “should keep a low profile" threat.
seanomelb | Dec 30, 2012, 04:56 PM EST
Poor old wounded brain!! The idiot has escaped the village again.Father Corsi is a neantherdal. Women can dress how they please and they look cute. Joan1954 abhors expressions of love in the churc of Christ. Is that not what you God people learn"to love one another".
merefalow | Dec 30, 2012, 04:38 PM EST
my lengthy previous comment has gone astray but briefly women should be able to dress as they wish with no fear of such evil being forced on them, with 10 year sentences at the very least being the penalty.
Proud Canadian2 | Dec 30, 2012, 04:25 PM EST
What a moronic statement. I'm not sure that the Donald isn't behind this, it sounds like something that he would say. I don't even read Wounded Knees comments any more because he says the same things. I think that his knee isn't the only thing that is wounded.
jacersagain | Dec 30, 2012, 04:02 PM EST
I find it particularly sad that Fr. Corsi's comments have gone viral at a time that in India, where women do not dress provocatively, three women have died in recent days as a result of gang rapes - one of horrific injuries, the other two of suicide.
jacersagain | Dec 30, 2012, 03:13 PM EST
There is some truth to this. I have seen women wear such short skirts and I see where I will leave that to your imaginations. Even in church I have had to tell people to stop smooching as there is another place for that. Really women need to think about what they wear when they go out. I don't agree what the Italian priest said but it is something that needs to be thought about.
Irishphotograph | Dec 30, 2012, 02:45 PM EST
WoundedKnee---Study Irish history and see that your beloved Rome imposed itself in Ireland. Giving King Henry their blessing to conquer Ireland and rid the church Patrick founded. American! Rome is Spiritual Imperialism and has left Ireland covered in spiritual darkness.
Springfield9 | Dec 30, 2012, 02:13 PM EST
This is one of those rare statements the polarizes people yet cannot be completely denied. Not long ago I saw a woman slap a 6 foot man for an innocent comment. He slapped he back. Under the law he was defending himself and she had commited an assault. Feminine integrity has morphed into a peculiar arrogance that probably will not survive.
eiriamach | Dec 30, 2012, 01:48 PM EST
It cannot be said too often that WoundedKnee does NOT represent anything at all American. He and his dwindling group of inbred "like-minded" desperately hang onto their "Irish" as a way of convincing themselves, in complete self-delusion, that they are somehow superior to other Americans. Ignore them, or call them what they are, but please don't mistake them for representative Americans of Irish descent. There is no behavior more typical of WoundedHead and his male cohort than trying to silence women who reject their Neanderthal behaviors--as he tries to do below yet AGAIN!
slainte9 | Dec 30, 2012, 01:31 PM EST
The priest was wrong. However, for those of us who actually have to live with this there is a great deal of disrespect among men and women for civility and the rights of others. This is especially true in the public schools, including the ones where my children attend. Some parent let their children go to school dressed like pimps and prostitutes with complete disregard for the distractions and disruptions they cause. Then they complain viciously when the school officials take them to task. The worst case of school violence -- rock throwing, profanity laced -- I have personally witnessed was committed by a pack of young women after a middle-school basketball game. They were not incited by the Catholic church, fools.
WoundedKnee | Dec 30, 2012, 01:28 PM EST
Eiriamach> What a shameless hypocrite you are. You have told us you're not a Catholic. Stay out our business then. You're a true bigoted Know Nothing--go play with your fundamentalist hellfire buddies.
caillmaire | Dec 30, 2012, 01:19 PM EST
Tis ridiculous. A woman could be naked, but that does not give any man the right to rape her. If a woman expresses her thoughts, that does not give another man or woman the right to abuse her. No one has the right to abuse another person, physically, sexually, or psychologically.
eiriamach | Dec 30, 2012, 01:18 PM EST
"Why is this article about an Italian priest on Irish Central?" some people ask. I don't know. But I find it useful because it allows ex-Catholics to work through the conscious or unconscious sense of loss or anger or disappointment that comes with leaving a religious tradition that was handed down by their ancestors for generations or centuries. Calling people "Know Nothings and Bigots," as WoundedKnee does, is insensitive when reading about a priest calling the hard-working women of his country sluts. We need more tolerance, more sensitivity to the process of people distancing themselves from a religion that repeatedly tries to shame members into obedience. I, for one, am absolutely outraged at the relentless attacks of RC churchmen on the dignity, freedom and worthiness of women. The anger of millions is woven into the recent history of this Church, and we cannot discard it in deference to those who choose to pretend that history never happened. It'll probably last a lifetime. And you only rake it up when you declare, like PhlutiePhen, that women have lost [our] dignity. Like the Italian priest, you show no respect! And you expect to be treated respectfully by others? Bigoted churchmen incite bigotry in followers, whether in Italy, Ireland, or the US--and they call it Christianity?
PhlutiePhan | Dec 30, 2012, 10:37 AM EST
Pandora's Box has been opened. Greek mythology speaks the truth. Women have a dignity which has been lost. Sex is a tool to obtain what they wish. The sins of men are more brutal. The sins of women are more psychological. The overwhelming number of gay priests has brought the Catholic Church to crisis. The good pastor is right. The wimp of a bishop is wrong. As Jack Nicholson stated in "A Few Good Men", the truth, you can't handle the truth.
RichardP | Dec 30, 2012, 10:36 AM EST
I thought this was IRISHCentral, not ITALIANcentral or Catholiccentral. Either way this priest is just one more shining example of the problems afflicting that discredited organization.
miamicanes | Dec 30, 2012, 10:33 AM EST
And after 40 days or so, some guy was tempted with all the world pleasures but he declined, gotta be a message there somewhere
Smyrnian | Dec 30, 2012, 10:18 AM EST
Jacers - this article is on IC simply to put the Catholic Church in a bad light. IC loves doing that. Just keep watching. They never refer to all the good things the Church has done.
The Commentator | Dec 30, 2012, 10:10 AM EST
I'm beginning to think WoundedKnee is a person who has some type of position in the Catholic Church and feels personally attacked when attention is brought to the crimes and foolish statements made by Roman Catholic Church hierarchy. The pedophiles, pedophile protectors, and misogynists in the church need to be purged. Why do these people keep bringing shame on the Catholic Church? How can we ever get back respect when idiots in the church keep bringing detrimental attention to the church?
jacersagain | Dec 30, 2012, 09:56 AM EST
Very stupid comments by Fr. Corsi... though why he's appearing as a story on Irish Central when the this incident occurred in Italy beats me...
The Commentator | Dec 30, 2012, 09:51 AM EST
Father Corsi probably blamed the children that were raped by his cronies and maybe him for the abuse. This is the problem with the Catholic Church; the egotistical men in power have no concern for anyone but themselves and will do and say anything to maintain the status quo. Their narrow minded intellect does not permit them the accept that they are the problem with the church and they continue to spew dialogue that they feel is acceptable all the time not realizing everyone else in the world looks down at them, not up to them. Get rid of these charlatans posing as christians.
CelticQueenUSA | Dec 30, 2012, 09:33 AM EST
There is an element of truth to the provocatively dressed but having 6 inches of brain to work with certainly hampers a man's reasoning.
knockatee | Dec 30, 2012, 09:13 AM EST
And how does Fr. Corsi account for the worldwide abuse of children by priests? Were they scantily clad too and brought the abuse on themselves?
Smyrnian | Dec 30, 2012, 08:04 AM EST
WKnee - we don't always agree but you certainly hit the nail on the head with your last comment. Agree totally.
Joe Kelsall | Dec 29, 2012, 06:35 PM EST
This guy is a feckin' charmer! I have never read such 'claptrap', by a man who should know better. Has he never heard the storyof Mary Magdalene? "The Bible and the church have been the greatest stumbling blocks in the way of woman's emancipation." --Elizabeth Cady Stanton
bobby | Dec 29, 2012, 03:52 PM EST
A bit like you and immigrants Woundedknee....
WoundedKnee | Dec 29, 2012, 02:37 PM EST
It is now patent that this site Irish Central has an anti_Catholic agend. This guy is Italian, what does this have to do with Ireland or Irish America? And his bishop disowned him. Irish Central Know Nothings and Bigots.
Riley1987 | Dec 29, 2012, 12:42 PM EST
I think that men who say that women share the blame for sexual violence because of the way they dress, say so because each time they see a woman dressed "provocatively" they themselves feel overwhelming sexual urges and think that this is a trait shared by all men. This makes sense considering the pent-up sexual frustrations priests and other bible-bashers must feel.
bobby | Dec 29, 2012, 10:55 AM EST
Typical of the roman catholic church. Always blaming the victims.
beachcomber | Dec 29, 2012, 09:56 AM EST
Wow, he really doesn't hold out much hope for men. According to his statements, men are weak, completely un-self-sufficient, easily led astray cretons who apparently can't control themselves in this harsh, cruel world. What an idgit.
eiriamach | Dec 29, 2012, 09:55 AM EST
Is Fr Corsi totally out of touch with domestic life in Italy? Or is it true that all domestic chores are the sole responsibility of Italian women and that Italian men have no responsibility whatever for the (alleged) facts that "Children are abandoned to their own devices, homes are dirty, meals are cold or fast food, clothes are filthy.” If that's the situation, Italian women are no better than slaves to men. But I do not believe it. The priest is blaming the victims for the "worst instincts" of their murderers and abusers. And "unacceptable" is all the bishop can say about this woman-bashing?
