Caroline Kennedy will be the next Ambassador to Japan, Bloomberg News is reporting.
Bloomberg stated that the president has signed off on Kennedy’s nomination, but that her vetting for the post had not been completed
The appointment is expected to be announced shortly.
Kennedy would follow in the footsteps of her grandfather, Joe Kennedy Senior who was Ambassador to Britain and her aunt, Jean Kennedy Smith who was Ambassador to Ireland.
The daughter of former president John F.Kennedy is a major supporter of President Obama.
She and her uncle Teddy Kennedy announced their support for him in the 2008 race against Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination at a key moment and it was seen as a turning point.
Kennedy, a lawyer and author, briefly ran for U.S. senator in New York but withdrew in 2009.

I second bunkerisland's proposal below! She woulda been a gift to Ireland like her aunt. Unless she wasn't interested or sometin'? Or unless BHO has some other Irish-American notable in mind? Either way, I wish her safety, peace, joy, health and happiness in her new role.

Harp - I know lots of people with even better qualifications than that. Not far off myself but, as I said, what, other than her name, are her qualifications to be ambassador to Japan???

By comparison,I can remember very few people who worked for Bill Clinton who appeared to possibly be of Irish-Catholic extraction during his eight years.

@Plutiephan -- For what it's worth, Pres. Obama has a good number of people with Irish names around him like Brennan, Donnelan(sp?), McDonough, Donavan {sp?), Carney. And there are others who are said to have some Irish-Catholic heritage like Sebellius (sp?) and Biden. And there have been some high ranking generals with Irish names promoted. @Smyrnian -- She is an attorney, writer and serves on a number of charities' boards and raises money for charities.

She should be following her aunt and be in Dublin!

It is obvious that Obama does not like the Irish. He treated Caroline horriby in her quest to become senator. This is a cynical attempt to buy her off.

Other than her last name what are her professional qualifications???

Have we checked with Senator Ted Cruz on this yet?
