Caroline Kennedy will headline an Irish rally for New Jersey governor Jon Corzine, who is facing a tough battle in his re-election race. The rally will take place on October 21st at Belmar, New Jersey. The town is in the center of the Spring Lake area, which is a large center of Irish American population.
It will be Kennedy's first public political appearance since her abortive run for the New York senate, and shows that her interest in politics has not waned despite the setback.
"We are absolutely delighted that Caroline Kennedy will headline,” said O'Leary "We are happy she is staying involved in politics and that she has chosen an Irish event to speak at. It is very symbolic for us as Irish Americans and a huge boost for Governor Corzine.
"John F. Kennedy was an idol for millions of Americans and still is, and the fact that his daughter is so strongly in support of Governor Corzine is an important boost.”
Kennedy was the favorite to replace New York Senator Hillary Clinton when she gave up her seat, but in a major surprise, withdrew her name from consideration on January 22 of this year.
Governor Corzine has a strong Irish support base to rely on as he fights for re-election.
