A cabin crew member has launched a campaign to have Ryanair’s advertising campaign banned on the grounds that is it “sexist”.  The series of ads launched by Michael O’Leary’s company feature members of the “red hot” flight staff wearing underwear.

So far the campaign leader, identified only as Ghada, has attracted over 7,000 supporters on the website Chang.org.

Ghada asks that the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) ban these ads  which have the tagline “Red Hot Fares & Crew”.

As part of her “Ryanair: stop selling your staff” campaign she says “I'm a member of cabin crew. I love my job and take it seriously, so I was disgusted to see this Ryanair ad which basically portrays cabin crew as glamour models.

"My work colleagues, many of whom are male, work hard with me to ensure the safety of our passengers. Safety is our number-one priority, not the brand of our underwear."

“Ryanair need to have these types of adverts banned.

“We have come a long way from seeing women purely in a sexual way as opposed to a professional way. No other profession would get away with depicting women in this way.

“In the new Pan Am series, Christina Ricci says to a customer with wandering hands, "I'm not included in the price of your ticket". Too right!”

Speaking to the Irish Independent Brie Rogers Lowey, the UK campaigns director for Change.org, said “This campaign shows that Ryanair cannot get away with objectifying female staff in their adverts.

"With no budget and only a computer at her disposal, Ghada has managed to recruit thousands of supporters."

Ryanair’s “Girls of Ryanair” calendar is also being protested. Members of the Tyrius association, in Spain, have reported the calendar to the Valencia Sexist Advertising Observatory. They are demanding that sales on that grounds that the calendar exploits women and the Ryanair staff.

In response Ryanair said all staff members posed voluntarily. They also announced that €10,000 of the proceeds from the calendar will go to the charity Debra.

Already the calendar has sold 7,000 copies and earned €100,000.

Pretty rich for Mr. O'Leary to be sexing-up Ryanair, when he characteristically took advantage of a publcity stunt to demonise unmarried mothers by supporting recent welfare cut backs in Children's Allowance, presumably to the benefit of the accompanying Tea-shock at Knock airport.
This type of ad promote the stereotype that womens' main purpose in life is to be sex objects. That they have nothing to offer towards the growth of society except their bodies. In addition not everyone is attracted to thin anorexic looking women.
The calendar is brilliant!!!! I will now go and light a candle praying that the very tall blonde is not the notorious Ghada! While I'm at it Gloria Steinem and Germaine Greer should be banned as sexist.
Just be thankful it's not yer man Susan Boyle in the promo.
O'Leary is just brilliant at marketing,he always has some new prop on the table to keep his company out front. How many of the other carriers give to charity. You the man Michael.
I probably wouldn't want to see Ghada in her underwear anyway .
I love to look at nice pretty naked women. Just like Sinead O'Connor!
One needs a distraction at 26,000 feet.Is this the fat ugly women campaign again getting sensitive?I mean that nice slender woman in the pic is perfect as an air hostess.Who wants a fat hippo air hostess blocking the aisle as everyone is scrambling to get out of a burning aircraft.
Hey bimjimmy, Lighten up. I liked it when they had good looking flight attendants. Now with men and anything that will fit down the aisle (well almost) it is just plain boring. Call me sexist if you will and I guess that is what I am. Thank God.
Always someone ready to cut Ryanairs throat, while all Ryanair are doing is cutting prices and a bit of fun, the girls were not forced, I actually know one of the girls mother, and the money they have collected is pouring in for charity, the majority wins here, the others are probably the type that sneak a quick peek at page three in the tabloids, Bimjimmy way over the top on hatred, I can't afford aerlingus flights, so ryanair get me to places I would never have had a chance to visit,I have no need for a silk cushioned seat on a flight, the government run N.Papers spout propaganda because gov. own half or more of aerlingus.
Interesting subject! I have always shunned radical feminism, with their anti male attitudes. Anything that we like, they seem to consider "exploitive". However, I remember the "Fly Me" commercials, which an American airline company ran, until around 1973. I do see the point that those ads promoted a false message that female flight attendants were "available" to unmarried male travelers. Friendly professionalism should prevail. I don't want to go back to an atmosphere where first name usage is discouraged, especially among near age & younger people. On the other hand, safety expertise concerning passengers & crew should always be respected. Feminine flair is okay, so long as it doesn't promote a "bimbo" image. I feel that attraction can enhance a woman's effectiveness, among men. After all, we wouldn't want to appear silly & incompetent to a special lady!
That bastard will do ANYTHING for publicity, including using his female staff (how can they say no? The bastard would fire them). He wins this stuff because people pay attention to his nonsense - for sure shut him down on this abuse, but don't encourage him.
I've flown Ryanair. It's like a fying bus with ads on the walls and hard plastic seats. But the, if you plan ahead, you can get cheap airfare.
Where is that great Irish sense of humor I hear so much about. No let's go the political correct route! Nah!
