Brother and campaign advisor of former Irish presidential candidate charged with child abuse
John Brown was charged on May 22 with three counts of indecent assault on a girl
The former campaign advisor and brother of Irish presidential candidate Dana Rosemary Scallon has been charged with child molestation in the UK.
It is understood the charges relate to accusations made to police by a 45-year-old woman in the UK after following the conclusion of the 2011 election campaign.
In September 2012, police received a further allegation from a 52-year-old woman.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman told the Irish Independent: "John Brown of Lilly Hill Road, Bracknell, Berkshire, was charged on May 22 with three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16.
"He has been bailed to appear at Hendon Magistrates' Court on June 7.
"The charges relate to two alleged victims."
Brown was first arrested last year by specially trained police officers from the Child Abuse Investigation Team in the UK. He was later released on bail and a file was sent to England's Crown Prosecution Service.
During the Irish presidential election in 2011 run it emerged that Brown, was accused by his brother-in-law, Dr. Ronald Stein, of sexually abusing Stein’s daughter in 2008.
Dana Rosemary Scallon dismissed the claims as as “malicious” and “vile” during a presidential debate. She received less than three percent of the vote in the election.
