The body of Olympic boxer, Darren Sutherland, 27, was exhumed on Wednesday after his family called for further investigation into his death.

This was the second postmortom carried out on Sutherland since his death in 2009.

A licence was granted to the family earlier this year by Meath County Council.

Sutherland's remains were the mortuary in Navan, Co. Meath following the exhumation.

An independent pathologist carried out the second postmortem.

Sutherland's family asked for a second postmortem after they expressed unhappiness about the findings of the first which took place in London last year.

Sutherland, who was found dead at an apartment in the London suburb of Bromley last September, won a bronze medal at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

He lost to Britain’s James DeGale who went on to take gold in the middleweight division.

Sutherland, who was based in England, turned professional and won four fights prior to his death.
