As marines we were expected to know the Code of Conduct, the first article of which states: "I am a United State fighting man. I serve in the forces that protect our country and out was of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense". In those good old days "our way of life" did NOT include a host of benefits for illegal aliens. To my knowledge no politician, prelate or journalist was campaigning in behalf of law-abiding,tax-paying military-serving legal immigrants, much less for illegal aliens, and there no restrictions on our Constitutional rights to freedom of religion.

Hey, Proud Canuk, it took Bush 2-3 days to send Federal help because the Democrat Governor of Louisiana and the Democrat Mayor of New Orleans at that time did not ask for the help, which, in a federal system, is prerequisite to sending in Federal forces (FEMA, Army, Navy, etc).
