Sarah Palin became the target for a tirade by the comedian and political commentator Bill Maher during his HBO show last Friday night.
The former vice-presidential candidate was mocked by Bill Maher in his skit, which has since been heavily criticized and described as vulgar.
In reference to the devastating earthquake and tsunami, Maher said: "Did you hear this - Sarah Palin finally heard what happened in Japan and she's demanding that we invade Tsunami. I mean she said, these Tsunamians will not get away with this. Oh speaking of dumb tw**s."
Palin had made no statement on the matter.
Responding to the comments, Terry Dougherty of Women Magazine accused the comedian of “misogyny”, she added: "Maher's choice of words shows an enormous lack of respect for women.
If his preceding joke had been about a man, I can't imagine him using an equally derogatory term to describe a male. That type of language shows a lack of consideration toward women".
On a recent trip to Israel, Palin met with the country's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. While on the trip she told the Indian Today Conclave in New Delhi that "it's time for a woman to be President", fueling the expectation that she will soon announce her candidacy for the 2012 Republican nomination for President.

Palin is now a boring waining star with no where to go,God I'm scared.
chesapeake | Mar 28, 2011, 04:20 PM EDT
Bill Maher is- was -a 3rd rate commenian; and os presently pretending to be as poltical analyst with less experience tand tact than Obama. He has no respect for Palin; bt cannot offer a reason other than she scares him. I would think that his favorite type of woman - if he has a taste for women - plays for pay. I am always surpised that he has not been slapped silly for his insulting commentary.
seanomelbourne | Mar 27, 2011, 01:36 AM EDT
What a lot of rot from the bleeding heart Palinite brigade.
hancock | Mar 26, 2011, 05:26 PM EDT
I love the power that this women have over liberals.
McNamara31 | Mar 26, 2011, 05:01 PM EDT
mollycolleen...I think the interesting quote you posted applies equally well to Maher and Palin.
mollycolleen | Mar 26, 2011, 01:48 PM EDT
'Tis Bill Maher who is stupid and a threat. He is a totally Godless man who spews hate in the media and acts as if he has the world on a string. He is a dangerous man because he has no inkling, not one iota, just how empty and ignorant he is. He is a man not to be listened to but a man for whom to pray. If he were to see this he would laugh because he is an atheist extraordinaire but God's word has said, "A fool finds no pleasure in understandingbut delights in airing his own opinions." Prov. 18:2
McNamara31 | Mar 26, 2011, 01:33 PM EDT
Palin continues to be a GOP attack "pit-bull". Her main job while on the McCain ticket was to get every lowlife smear "out there" about her opposition, so McCain wouldn't have to get his hands dirty. Now she's trying to elevate herself to being the GOP/Conservative pit-bull in the worldwide arena which can be potentially very dangerous. Palin still has not learned from her prior attacks on congresswoman Gifford. She displays the same lack of judgment when visiting world leaders with her views of how she "wold uv don it". The day will come when Palin will blow up in the face of the GOP party.
jamieLM | Mar 26, 2011, 01:30 PM EDT
I take every opportunity to avoid Bill Maher. He's rude and crude and a legend in his own mind. Unfortunately, that describes a lot of know-it-alls on TV and radio.
billito | Mar 26, 2011, 12:46 PM EDT
no,twobar, they are all bought by and in the service of big corporations.but Palin would like us to believe she's just a humble housewife who's toiling on behalf of the average citizen.whenever i am disappointed with Obama, I remember that the alternative was McCain-Palin.The horror! Palin would love no regulation of anything and would privatize things like social security and the list goes on. Given all that he inherited and how bent on his failure the Republican Party is from day one,its a miracle that Obama has accomplished anything and frankly,I'm somewhat surprised that he's still alive.Palin isn't calling for that to happen, but she appeals to such sickos and loves creating division. She brings the already juvenile level of political discourse,if it can be called that, down several notches. As for Maher,he's a self important boob himself
eiriamach | Mar 26, 2011, 10:29 AM EDT
It has been a serious strain for thinking women to see and hear the likes of Palin, Bachmann, O'Donnell, and Engel in media focus, with FOX news crews touting their every fluff-for-brains comment. The politics of these women is strongly misogynist, as Bachmann's voting record shows (I thank the goddess the others did not get voted into office). I've been nervously awaiting the moment that some MSNBC commentator would cross the line with a misogynistic crack. But to be fair, I should congratulate them. Those on the left have been careful to avoid that kind of treatment though it must have tempted some, especially with the GOP women telling their Democrat male opponents to "man up." Maher made the almost-inevitable slip-up. Ho hum. . . .
Pittsburghkid | Mar 25, 2011, 10:15 PM EDT
Maher claims to have some Irish blood, but I think his Irish gene rolled down his daddy's leg. Maher called Sarah the C word. I mean he used the actual word. I would call a playmate a "poopie head", but I was five years old. The Irish have a history of being word smith. The Irish invented the Limerick, and all the great Irish poets, and writers. As my father would say, "he's from hunger".
seanomelbourne | Mar 25, 2011, 07:01 PM EDT
Liberal don't fear Palin johnkin they want her to run for president,if you read carefully it's the other GOP presidential wannabes who fear her.
twobar=s | Mar 25, 2011, 03:32 PM EDT
To billito, and you think Obama is not backed by the giant corporations?
nousnous | Mar 25, 2011, 12:53 PM EDT
If Sarah Palin were to run for president I would never vote for her. However, she must be doing something right to have these liberal Democrats in such a tizzy that they step all over themselves to denounce her. Their reaction to her makes them look stupid and petty. I love it!!
billito | Mar 25, 2011, 10:48 AM EDT
Maher may have been vulgar, but its way past time that people realized what a dunce and a fraud Palin is. All her policies support the giant corporations that back her and pull her strings and have taken the U.S. to the cleaners.Being folksy isn't a substitute for intellegence and genuinely acting on behalf of the average citizen.she's an airhead on an egotrip
JohnKinMD | Mar 25, 2011, 10:42 AM EDT
The left really must fear her to to go after her like this.
hancock | Mar 25, 2011, 10:12 AM EDT
Bill Mahre, the same moron who praised the 9/11 crew for being brave? What a dick.
springman | Mar 25, 2011, 05:51 AM EDT
@Mike7571 - You're absolutely right! TV is getting so bad that this kind of CRAP is all we have to look forward to. Pretty sad. When knocking SP, if they were to say "Oh I can't stand her because she wants to balance the budget or reduce govt. or return jobs to the private sector and that's just BS" then I would listen. Nothing substantial!
springman | Mar 25, 2011, 05:44 AM EDT
Bill Maher has some serious issues. A friend and big Obama supporter once said I should watch Maher. I explained to him that Bill Maher would never be my mentor and now I know why. The guy is just crude and basically a moron. I'm shocked he gets substantial ratings to even carry a show. He knows nothing about nothing period!
Mike7571 | Mar 25, 2011, 03:06 AM EDT
How can a tasteless, no talent ass like Maher even have a show? Are we really that defunct in this country in the entertainment business?
badolan | Mar 25, 2011, 12:16 AM EDT
The insult is to associate Palin with women - not their genitalia. She truly is a dumb ass.
Rebelforce | Mar 24, 2011, 11:22 PM EDT
Bill Maher is the warped brain who thought up the "hillarious" idea of going to a Hollywood Halloween party dressed as "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin--- complete with bloody shirt and a stinger sticking out of his chest---a month after Irwin's tragic death. What can you say? The guy is a p.r.i.c.k.
semperfidelis | Mar 24, 2011, 08:34 PM EDT
No fan of Palin, consider her pretty much a light weight w/out the experience necessary to be a serious candidate for President; although neither did the current "occupant" of that office, but Maher represents everything I loath and hold in contempt of those of his type; smug, arrogant, full of himself, crude, not nearly as clever as he thinks he is, truly a class A jerk
McNabb1966 | Mar 24, 2011, 08:06 PM EDT
@just4fun... So you'd have no problem if, say, Rush Limbaugh were to describe Michelle Obama as a "twat?" If you say "no" then you're a liar. If you say "yes" then you're a hypocrite. But then again, lies and hypocritical hate speech are a way of life for the Left. Sooner or later some of you are gonna have to grow up.
Towngate | Mar 24, 2011, 07:50 PM EDT
TRSPIT80: Your:- "...And, "Towngate," as much as some far left Americans would like to turn the U.S. Into Europe, they haven't succeeded yet. In AMERICA, "Twat" IS gender specific"... is very interesting.Thank you. We, on this side of the pond, are not so much aware of Left v Right in American 'society' and Politics ~ you are all just Americans to us;but as you are using a European language, both camps might get along better if you used it properly.
mellett117 | Mar 24, 2011, 06:23 PM EDT
As I started to say, this is Fox at its worst, cancelling someone for stating an opinion about the shrill, woman hating Sarah Palin. I do not care much for Maher, although he is funny on occasion, and much smarter and more knowlegeable than Palin. He is right on target about her!
seanomelbourne | Mar 24, 2011, 05:57 PM EDT
Don't criticise what you don't understand boringfield.
borefield | Mar 24, 2011, 04:13 PM EDT
just4fun belongs in the same sewer as Maher. I don't watch his show so I only hear what is reported on news broadcasts.
just4fun | Mar 24, 2011, 02:28 PM EDT
For all the narrow minded biggots that have no sense of humor the word "twat" is and has been used frequently around the world. Only in the US do we have a lack of knowledge when it comes to language and education. As for Alaska's ding-bat Pallen she talks twaddle constantly and sends out mostly negative messages and information. But then take a look at her education, it's not surprising.

MAHER IS JUST A COMMON DRUNK!
cathy/marty | Mar 24, 2011, 12:24 PM EDT
Maher is a useless piece of dog dung. No talent should not be on T.V.would kiss Obamas a-- if given the chance. Disgrace to the Irish people.
SeamusMor | Mar 24, 2011, 11:42 AM EDT
Sarah Palin did not know the difference between North Korea and South Korea! It is good for some one seeking the presidency of the United States to know the difference between allies and enemies. Bomb Tsunami!
bronxjames | Mar 24, 2011, 11:37 AM EDT
I hate Maher he is a f--king commie. Yes they do exist. I hope to read the news one day and the headline says Maher dead! PALIN FOR PRESIDENT. I bet she'll show us her birth certificate unlike the muslim president...as for you foreigners mind your own goddamn business
antoman | Mar 24, 2011, 11:14 AM EDT
If Sarah Palin phones up and says she can see Russian bombers from her door. You may be certain that radar is broken in America.
cailinrua | Mar 24, 2011, 10:50 AM EDT
Really? A bit like shooting fish in a barrel, don't you think? Leftist commentator (comedian, pundit, your noun here) makes fun of Sarah Palin, and liberal-minded folks just eat it up and pronounce it brilliant. Is that all ya got?
colkelley | Mar 24, 2011, 10:42 AM EDT
Maher substitutes insult for humor and satire because he lacks the talent and intelligence to actually be humorous or satirical.
MissEntropy | Mar 24, 2011, 10:34 AM EDT
Oi vey! Did anyone actually watch Bill Maher's show last week? Or any week? He always insults Sarah Palin, I mean seriously, she leaves herself wide open. She is a dumb tw**s. I wonder what the issue would be if a female had used the same insult. As a female, I personally was not insulted by the comment nor did I find it "lacking in respect for women." I did find it lacking in respect for Sarah Palin, which, to be fair, is par for the course. Excluding Fox pundits and tea baggers, who does respect her and for what? Breathing?
sedwinmars | Mar 24, 2011, 10:30 AM EDT
Bill Maher is a comedian and a political satirist. If you don't understand satire or have a sense of humor (and we clearly know that Palin and most of her "followers" simply don't have the intellectual capacity for either), then don't watch his show or listen to his comments. Satire and comedy do not reflect the philosophy of the comedian. They are making fun of the subject alone. The right wing is now claiming hypocrisy because the left is always slamming Rush Limbaugh for his constant slamming of Hilary, Michelle Obama, and even the Obama girls. But specifically I HAVEN'T SEEN OR HEARD TERRI DOUGHERTY CRITICIZE RUSH LIMBAUGH ONCE. If a right winger criticizes someone on the left, it means nothing if they're not doing the same to the people on the right for the same.
trspit80 | Mar 24, 2011, 10:17 AM EDT
Mahr has crossed the line of satire and moved into just plain hate. But can the "left" actually go there? It seems that they reserve terms like "hate" and "intolerance" only for "right wingers.". And, "Towngate," as much as some far left Americans would like to turn the U.S. Into Europe, they haven't succeeded yet. In AMERICA, "Twat" IS gender specific.
Towngate | Mar 24, 2011, 08:58 AM EDT
HOW COME she let the 'Earthquakians' off so lightly?! Btw: "Twat" as an insult, is not gender specific when used by Europonians.
BishopSean | Mar 24, 2011, 08:50 AM EDT
Political satire is great; but nasty clowning is in another category altogether.
