This is wrong: "Gun control is unconstitutional." Gun ownership is constitutional. That fact does not make control of guns unconstitutional. I have the constitutional freedom to own and use an airplane, but its also constitutional to control pilots' licenses and require that I take a lesson and have my Cessna safety checked before I fly it over your house. Similarly with guns.

Bill Maher is only a comedian. He is not a political activist. But his views on gun control make him sound like an extreme liberal. Gun control is unconstitutional, Bill, and your opinions are just a strong as anyone else's. I think you need to stick with your day job of trying to make people laugh. Guns are a right, and certainly not a religion. Also, Bill Maher is not an expert on theology, NOT AT ALL!

Isn't it interesting how the current political campaign is changing the way we use words like "theology" and "religion"? How'd that happen? About a week ago, Santorum criticized Obama: "It's about some phony ideal. Some phony theology. Oh, not a theology based on the Bible -- a different theology." When asked to explain that comment on Face the Nation, he said, "I've repeatedly said I believe the president is a Christian.... But I am talking about his world view and the way he approaches problems in this country, and I think they're different than how most people do in America." When the American bishops, USCCB, launched their war against women and gays, they used words like "religion" and "theology." Everyone knew that they were just waging far-right politics with religious rhetoric. But suddenly, words like "world view" and "liberal/ conservative ideology" were no longer powerful enough to describe someone's politics. So now politics is a matter of whether you're for or against 'my God,' the bible God or some social justice god or the NRA god! I think it's time to ratchet the rhetoric down a notch and call a political view a political view, not a "theology." God may not like being dragged into the chaos of US politics.

'Assault weapons' contribute to a tiny percentage of violence in the US - 2%. You have more chance of being killed by a tornado. This anti-assault stance is a default whine by those who want to outlaw guns in the U.S. - which will never happen. What is done by a criminal with a gun is not the fault of law abiding gun-owners or of the gun manufacturer or anyone else; criminals commit crimes for reason of their own. Firearms are available in any city in the world to anyone for the right price.

I happen to love guns. My parents bought me my first rifle (a WW-II) surplus Lee-Enfield Mark-IV (cal 303) when I was about 12 years old. I fell in love with the smell of the gun oil, the smooth click when the bold locked and the recoil. Over the years I had several rifles I enjoyed, but my real love was the M1 (Garand) the United States Marine Corps issued me in 1961. Mr Liberal, Socialist Maher never had the pleasure of serving the country and possibly falling in love with an object made of Iron and wood, so he should keep his Commie ideology to himself. Of course the Irish will swoon over this paragon of self-righteousness

The key point Maher made was ' reasonable limits'. In 1790, the authors felt such limits were "a well-regulated militia being necessary". Today it would be laws that limited the use of assault weapons.

While I mourn the children lost in Ohio and am horrified by the 139 people shot EVERY day in the United States, I think Mr. Maher is wrong in regard to the 2nd amendment and state of the art firepower. The rifles of the minutemen WERE the cutting edge firearms of the 18th Century. That is what the writers of the Bill of Rights had in mind, not matchlocks. To limit the type of legal firearm to less than the most advanced type would render the 2nd amendment useless. Should the Syrian people be limited to muzzleloaders as they struggle against their dictator? Our gun tragedies are seldom carried out with assault rifles or high capacity magazines. but rather inexpensive handguns. Ohio has a law requiring gun owners to lock them up so that children can't get to them. That is why the judge asked if the shooter's grandfather was going to be represented by an attorney. Once again Mr. Maher blames the type of gun rather than the person responsible for its misuse. Rather than banning flashy firearms to make us feel that we have done something important, we need to concentrate on making the laws we currently have work better to keep guns out of the hands of children, criminals and crazy people. This is the same mentality that thinks a fence will keep illegal aliens from crossing our borders while ignoring ladders, tunnels and the real reasons causing people to want to come here and leave their homes. Why do Americans always think a pretty bandaid will cure everything and ignore the hard work of real healing?

What else can you expect from an Athiest, Marxist pig. he doesn't even respect women. I hope his mother is proud of what she raised!!
