A highly controversial Muslim leader, banned from the US and Britain, will hold a five-day conference in Dublin on Islamic issues.
Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi is named by the Irish Examiner as the head of the European Council for Fatwah and Research (ECFR). He is based in Qatar and has an estimated 40 million followers. His advocates say he is a moderate.
The sheikh, aged 84, has publicly stated in public that Israeli women, even those pregnant are legitimate targets for suicide bombers.“‘Israeli women are not like our women. Israel is a militarised society, all young people do military service, therefore they are legitimate targets’." he has been quoted as saying.
He has also professed approval for Adolf Hitler and his treatment of Jews

“Throughout history, Allah has imposed upon the Jews people who would punish them for their corruption...The last punishment was carried out by [Adolf] Hitler. By means of all the things he did to them – even though they exaggerated this issue – he managed to put them in their place. This was divine punishment for them...Allah willing, the next time will be at the hand of the believers.
He is also violently anti-homosexual and has said it should be punishable by killing.
He has also made clear very controversial remarks on rape and domestic violence.
On wife beating he stated it was “ not obligatory nor desirable" but that he "accepts it as a method of last resort – though only lightly"
Usama Hasan, an influential Imam in Britain where the Sheikh is banned stated Sheikh al-Qaradawi was "massively influential and probably the number one scholar in the Arab world".
he described him as a "very complex" character and described him as a "fundamentalist, but a progressive fundamentalist".
The Dublin conference is being heavily covered by the Arab press as it is considered a very influential body.
A recent Wikileaks document showed the US Embassy worried that the Sheikh had a major influence on Muslims in ireland

SCRIVNER, I am really glad to read that, but if you stay with us on I.C. you will see some very bigoted Americans, the main one to look out for is GoergeDillon who will insult you whether you are black, white, purple or striped.

Why is Ireland allowing this "Son of satan" to step foot in Ireland to preach his hatred of non-muslims?????
peterson | Jun 30, 2011, 09:12 PM EDT
Feed him some pork and send him packing. He should be banned from Ireland as well.

Lilpaddy: 951-264-7103? Is that your phone number? You want Momma Ginnty to call you? Wow, ain't this romantic!
LilPaddy | Jun 30, 2011, 03:23 PM EDT
mamaginnty, For the majority part I agree with you, and we both know that McCourts account was 100% correct; and for sure, equal to our kimmage, Dub. economic condition... But like you I too had a father who was "a father"... I love Ireland and just got back from from buying lakefront property that I then dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Irish Institutions (myself being one) and the 9-11 heroes and victims.... I thank America for putting up with me for the last 50yrs... But Ireland is still home... and I will help it by putting my money where my people and mouth is!! p.s. I had the same type shoes and coat you had. Tell me, What color was yours? 951-264-7103
Scrivner | Jun 30, 2011, 02:16 PM EDT
Mama Ginnty, I think you're mistaken when you say, "From what I see below, America is back to white supremacy. Terrorists we do not have." I remember when Martin Luther King was stoned in our fair city (Chicago) and a few years later when it's first African-American mayor was elected. Across the USA inter-racial marriage is no longer a crime and same-sex unions of one sort or another are becoming legal. In the neighborhood where my office is located, the local Chamber of Commerce represents Indian, Pakistani, Orthodox Jews, Russians and Greeks...and they all get along. I am glad that this sheikh got a platfomr in an English speaking environment, so that more people realize that some beliefs can be sincerely held, yet still be stupid and dangerous.

Trealach, your anti-American hatred is showing. Two things are killing western civilization: misapplication of freedom of religion and misapplication of freedom of speech. Neither demand totally ignoring imminent threats to kill you and your family, which is what this idiot and his 40 million crazies is doing. If one of his adherents was standing in front of you and your family with an AK-47 ranting about killing you and your family, do you stand and listen because of free speech/freedom of religion, or do you get off a round into his demented forehead? Think about it...his talk is not rhetorical, it is a call to arms to annihilate humans who don't believe as he does.
haikued2 | Jun 30, 2011, 01:32 PM EDT
And this comes under the mis-labeling of religious tolerance...suicide of the west is what it really is. All the nice sweet little tolerant folks are participating in the genocide these crazies advocate. I guess this comes under the label of "love your enemy and kill your friends and family".

@Sirpeter-It would allow me to escape after I had locked the 72 flying brooms in the utility room.

Maggie... poo is the right word for you, keep your nose out of Ireland, this is what I.C. does, exaggerates any story involving Ireland, then the worms come out of the american woodwork, like all below. As for McCourt, it was all true, and not just in Limerick, get a life, are you ashamed that we had very poor people, does not seem so long ago that I went to junior school with no shoes and lucky to have an old coat that served as a blanket as well, Luckily I had a good father, not like the father in the film. But there was plenty like him. I am not ashamed, it taught me to value the little things in life, and proud of Ireland and it's people, and the ones who came back home. From what I see below, America is back to white supremacy. Terrorists we do not have.
SeamusMor | Jun 30, 2011, 12:02 PM EDT
This Sheikh will be preaching jihad in Dublin when he should be eating lamb in paradise. Send in the SEALs!
Trealach | Jun 30, 2011, 11:47 AM EDT
It's called FREEDOM OF SPEECH, something the Americans only TALK about but CAN'T exercise. They seem to forget that the terrorists who flew the planes on 9/11 were TRAINED TO FLY in the US BY Americans ..... now whose the pack of morons!! rofl
biggles008 | Jun 30, 2011, 11:44 AM EDT
Get him out FAST.
irishamerica46 | Jun 30, 2011, 11:08 AM EDT
Seeing that Irish Politicians allow this to occur on Irish soil, perhaps American tourists should stop visiting.
Springfield9 | Jun 30, 2011, 11:03 AM EDT
Well, having such a cracked carpet pilot on the shores of Erin should surely brighten the place up. After he leaves we could take up a collection and have a statue of Winston Churchill put up in front of the GPO.

Is Ireland now a Muslim country?

DISGRACEFUL !
owainglyndwr16 | Jun 30, 2011, 10:16 AM EDT
I see what you did there .. You took everything out of context and sensationalized it like the apologists that you are .. He didn't refer to domestic abuse as sanctioning the beating to a pulp a spouse and his referring to Hitler and his treatment of Jews he did not elaborate so that gives you no right to speculate .. If you did your history it is fact that Hitler did to the Jews what the USA did to the Japanese with one difference the Germans went out of their way to keep the Jews alive !!

Good 'ol Ireland. A policy like this - of allowing terrorists to come to our shores - will bite us back.

This primeval moron is banned in the U.S. and Britain but is allowed into Ireland to spew forth his hate-filled ravings! Why is this lunatic being allowed to hold a five-day conference in Dublin! This kind of Cead Mile Failte to radical, violent Islam is gutless lunacy.

The thought of blowing myself up and being greeted by 72 Irish women in heaven frightens me.I'd bet they would prevent me from going to the pub for a few jars with the lads,,and even if they let me to the pub.I would'nt have the price of a pint on account of all the nappies I'd be buying.
