Read a book many years ago about (Irish Faction Fighting by retired Irish Army Commandant Peadar Mc Donnell) about how the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA)/An Cumann Luchleas Gael (CLG) was essentialy devised to direct this practice into sporting activity. Faction fighting was similar to latter day Traveller family feuding, and was encouraged by English landlords to divert potential hostility away from them. The GAA needs to reassess the inate aggressivity in their sport, particularly hurling.
