Apple’s Youngest App Developer, Waterford ‘s Jordan Casey speaks in NYC
13-year-old coder of video game Alien Ball Vs. Humans topped the charts
Jordan Casey, Ireland’s youngest entrepreneur, was invited to speak at the Apple Store in Soho on Wednesday.
Casey was the keynote speaker for the event at which he launched two of his latest apps, now available in the iTunes store. The event was organized by the Irish International Business Network (IIBN) – Future Leaders Board, to promote entrepreneurship at an early age and foster and build relationships between young Irish and American professionals.
CEO of Casey Games Inc., Casey started writing code at the age of nine. The 13 year old, whose video game Alien Ball Vs. Humans went to the top of various app charts, has spoken at a multitude of events and conferences from the Digital Agenda Assembly in Dublin Castle and TED Talks to the Cannes Lions Festival for Creativity in Communications, as well as speaking to leaders and entrepreneurs in Germany and India.
Speaking on the night about how he felt when he got the recent news from Apple that his two latest apps had been accepted to the iTunes store, Jordan explained, “I feel relieved. It takes a long time to complete apps and a lot of the time these apps aren't accepted. Having them in the iTunes store now pays off for all the hard work & now I can take a bit of a break”. Jordan follows a line of very high profile names who have spoken at the store including Clint Eastwood, Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Pattinson.
Coined as “Europe’s Gameboy,” Jordan is setting records for his career achievements to date, now with five apps on sale at iTunes. When asked what inspires him when creating the games, Jordan responded, “I find inspiration for my apps from games that I play a lot and also suggestions from my family and friends. I get inspiration from some apps by finding tasks that could be done so much easier because of technology, but people still use the same outdated objects”.
“This event was something very unique and exciting for IIBN and we were delighted that Jordan accepted our invitation to be keynote speaker,” said Tracy Monaghan, IIBN Future Leader Board, Chairperson. “He is definitely an inspiration and his insights and experiences to date have given us all something to think about in terms of our own career goals.”
The event was organized by a group of motivated, young individuals who are currently living and working in New York City. They are members of the IIBN in New York and were chosen to be part of the IIBN Future Leaders Board.
