An American tourist died after falling on Skellig Michael in County Kerry on Sunday. The 57-year-old woman fell while walking with her husband on the island.
The woman, from Rochester, New York, sustained head injuries in the fall and passed away on the steep rocky island off the coast of Kerry. The body was flown by helicopter to Cork University Hospital.
Earlier this summer another American tourist, Joseph Gaughan, from Wilkbar, P.A., died after falling 30 feet on his way down from the top of the rock in the same area where the woman lost her life yesterday at the Irish heritage site.
The latest tragedy has reinforced a call for more signs on the island to alert visitors of the dangers of walking on the rock.
