One of Ireland’s most beloved celebrities, Fungi the Dolphin, is alive and well after being photographed recently off the coast of its home in Dingle, Co Kerry.
Photos taken on February 19 in Dingle by Jeannine Masset and Rudi Schamhart show what appears to be an elderly but still lively Fungi the Dolphin. The photos were shared on Fungi’s Facebook fan page.
The photos of Fungi further dispute recent hoaxes that the dolphin may have died. It’s believed that Fungi was born in the mid-1970s and turned up in Dingle Harbour in 1984. Although dolphins usually travel in pods Fungi seems to prefer the company of humans and spends his day swimming with the local boats and tourist tours.
The new photos of the historic Fungi come just a few months before the beloved bottlenose dolphin’s 30th anniversary celebration in Dingle. Check out the video below for more information about the events!

fanastic,so glad he is ok,wish he would stay away from humans though, they are resposible for the multiple deaths of millions of his fellows with their stinking miles of inescapeable trawler nets, which should be banned to give fish stocks time to recover.

We need to change his name to O'Fungi.

Fungi looks pretty feisty, still. He's a smart dolphin, choosing to live in Dingle so he can hang out with the fun Irish people.
