Their example is the Republican party in America. They are masters at this type of ugly campaigning. This article leads me to believe that it is just starting or this is relativvely new to Ireland. If so and if they follow American politics it will get even worse and the Israelis won't have to interferr anymore.

As an Anglophile,David Norris will be aware of the legend of Dick Whittington, tho country boy who failed in his first attempt to make his way in London. As he left dejected; he heard a voice which told him to: " Turn again, Whittington!" He did, and eventually became the Mayor of London and one of the wealthiest men in the kingdom. So:- "Turn again Norris! ~ and save us from that sniddling little pis-taker Gay Byrne!"

As a Catholic by choice, from what I have seen, it's part of the Catholic baggage. With friends in Australia the same weapons of choice of dirty tactics, well timed leaks and smear campagns are well recorded there.
Religion and politics, take your choice, there's always the exhonoration of the confessional.
