As the scandal plagued Rep. Anthony Weiner appears to have ruled himself out of the running in the 2013 race for the position of Mayor of New York it seems that Irish American star, ’30 Rock’ funny man Alec Baldwin is seriously considering the idea.

According to the Daily a friend of Baldwin’s said he might run now that the field has been shaken up

““Alec said, ‘Hey, maybe this changes the race. The dynamics have shifted,’ ” said Baldwin’s pal. “The Democrats need a high-profile candidate, and Alec can fill that bill.”

On Wednesday afternoon Baldwin posted on his Twitter account “It's a long way till November of 2013."

His spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, told New York Daily News that the Emmy Award-winning actors may consider running. He said “I wouldn't rule it out."

This isn’t the first time Baldwin running for mayor has come up as a possibility. In January the die-hard Democrat told CNN “Yes, it's something that I am very, very interested in...People would say to me all the time, 'Why would you want to do that?' And sometimes I don't want to do it because to leave what I am doing now would be extremely painful."

Other possible candidates for the position included City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, former City Controller Bill Thompson, City Controller John Lie and Public Advocate Bill deBlasio.

Baldwin has also confirmed that he his contract with “30 Rock” expires in 2012.
