Ireland’s national airline Aer Lingus is to fly daily to San Francisco next summer in a major boost to the business and tourism sectors.

The state carrier has confirmed that it is to boost its recently re-launched service to the Golden Gate city.

Passengers can already book seats on the new daily service on the Aer Lingus website according to a report in the Irish Independent.

The company’s outgoing chief executive Christoph Muller previously told the paper that increasing the five-days-a-week service to seven was the preferred option for the airline.

He said: “It’s always better to operate on a daily basis, Increasing the San Francisco route to seven days a week is a target that is built into the business plan for the service.”

The San Francisco route was relaunched by Aer Lingus last April.

The national carrier had previously operated the service between 2007 and 2009 before it was axed as part of cost cutting moves.

Aer Lingus believes the new daily service will attract passengers from Britain and Europe keen to take advantage of Dublin Airport’s US customs and immigration pre-clearance facilities.

Aer Lingus has recently expanded services to Toronto, Boston and New York using Boeing 757 aircraft.
