It seems a 25-year-old Catholic woman who owns a dog, describes herself as thin, and drinks alcohol three times a week is more likely to receive the largest number of messages online dating than any other woman.

Data compiled from online dating site ‘Plenty of Fish’ revealed women who drink alcohol receive 4.4 per cent more messages on average compared to other women on the website.

The most popular age for women is 25 and 26, receiving 14.4 percent more messages, compared  to that of a 33 year old woman on the site who would receive the fewest hits based on age.

Women who are Catholic receive 20 per cent more messages than other religions while those who described their body type as 'thin' receive 41 per cent more than the average woman.

Those who own a dog receive 5 per cent more messages than those who do not.

A team of researchers, including two PHD scientists, examined more than 1.8 million messages sent between heterosexual singles.

Their sample involved more than 81,000 singles between the ages of 25 and 35 in America.

Researchers analysed attributes, demographics, physical traits and length of profiles to identify what makes men and women most desirable on a dating site.

Ironically in the data compiled men's age is immaterial - education and salary are more important to women.

A single Catholic man with brown hair, who publicly states that he wants children, drinks socially and earns between $100,000-150,000 a year is proven to receive the most messages.
